So my brother's getting married in Las Vegas the last weekend in May. I've never been to Vegas before. I've been researching shows playing there, but is there anything worth seeing? Also, does anyone have any tips about getting cheap tickets to these shows?
Love is excellent, but I don't believe it's being discounted much if not all. Jersey Boys and Phantom are still in great shape but do show up on the discount booth fairly regularly.
Definitely go to the Tix 4 Tonight booths and check out what's available there. Occasionally you can find deals on Travelzoo, too.
Have fun!

if you want a big show to see in vegas and your family has never been to vegas see "O". if you want something more fun and personal see Absinthe. Phantom would be a waste of money to me, I slept through it.
I enjoyed very much "Jersey Boys" last summer and I don't think I would have ever choose to see it in NY among so many other shows.
I've heard great things about "Ka" and "O". These are unique shows while "Mystere" is similar to the rest of the Cirque du Soleil shows, in my opinion.
Go see "KA" at the MGM Grand. I've seen every Cirque production in Las Vegas, and this is the best. FYI, "Jersey Boys", "Phantom", etc. are shortened versions of the plays, in case you didn't know.
I would say "O" no question. Although you won't find a discount, it truly is one of the most amazing things I've seen on "stage." Le Reve is also quite good.
A client took me to Jersey Boys in February. It didn't seem shortened at all in my opinion. It was also the first time I've ever experienced an usher coming up to us and several others in the balcony and upgrading us to 12th row center. Perfect.
Absinthe is a must see. It's like a really dirty and small sized cirque show in a tent. If you can get tickets Terry Fator's show is excellent as well.
I second going to Tix 4 Tonight booths. That's how we saw "KA". It is the only show I saw in Vegas and my jaw was dropped the whole night. It's HUGE. My friends all rave about "Zumanity". That's the next one I want to see. I had discount tickets for "Phantom" but we were staying at The Venetian and within an hour I was tired of the Phantom music constantly pumping through the hotel speakers.
"O" is by FAR the best cirque ever created. Performed on, in, and around water. One of the most incredible spectacles you can ever witness. I doubt you will find discounted tickets, but its worth a shot.
"LE REVE" is a knock off of "O". On, in, and around water. But this time, the theatre is in the round. Not as cool as "O", but still amazing, and better chance for discounts.
"KA" is focused much more on the cool **** they can do in the theatre. The design is STUNNING, the stage is crazy, and the things they can do are pretty neat, but it was lacking in the talent category.
"MYSTERE" is a great cirque. The first sit-down cirque in vegas, and is still going strong. Less about cool technology, and more about the performers.
"CRISS ANGEL:BELIEVE" If you like Criss Angel, and you like Magic, and cirque, then you'll enjoy this. I think Angel is a douchebag. But I was still impressed by some of the sh*t he did.
"LOVE" is by far the most aweful cirque I have ever seen. A pretensious clusterf*ck of light, sound, image, dance, movement, etc. It was WAY over the top. far too many elements. I had a HUGE headache afterwards.
"ZUMANITY" prides itself as being the sexy side of cirque. I was pretty drunk when I went, and i enjoyed it.
VIVA ELVIS is supposedly a mess, though I havnt seen it. And I hear PEEPSHOW is the same.
"PHANTOM" is a brilliant production. Only 100 minutes, one act, no intermission, and after watching it, I couldnt even figure out what was cut! For everyone who cant sit through the 3 hour version of the tedious show, this is amazing! And of course, they threw some vegas spunk into the show, with an AMAZING chandalier, and some new set pieces! They actually went through Maria Bjornsons original sketches and drawings, and added back in some of her designs that got cut before the show opened in 87.
"JERSEY BOYS" is fine. But why see that in vegas? Same is said for LION KING.
Hope that was helpful!
Also, go to the cirque du soliel website. Watch the small show preview clips and see what speaks to you. If you're gonna be in vegas, see a cirque, and not a musical.
Having seen the Broadway and Vegas production of Jersey Boys a few times each within the past few months, I would highly recommend the Vegas production over Broadway. Sure, the audience is half-asleep, and the show is a few minutes shorter -- but you're getting a better product onstage.
As far as food, don't miss out on Spago at Cesars Palace (occasionally this shows up on Tix 4 Tonight)! El Segundo Sol at the Fashion Show Mall is good, too.

My favorite Las Vegas show is "Jubilee" at Bally's. It's your typical "Las Vegas" show - gorgeous, topless showgirls coming down big staircases, incredible costumes, big production numbers, etc. The finale is amazing! Such glitz and glamour! Every time I go to LV with friends, we always see "Jubilee" and enjoy it so very much.
I pretty much agree with lightguy, although I preferred "Le Reve" to "O." If it's your first time in Vegas, I would recommend "Jubilee" if you want a real "Vegas" show. It's very old school and somewhat dated, but it's a huge production (a friend of mine designed the sets about a quarter of a century ago). For the Broadway style shows, see, "Phantom." It is truly a spectacle. For a Cirque du Soleil show, I recommend "Mystere" and "Le Reve." They are different from each other, but very cool. And definitely check out Tix 4 Tonight. You'll find good deals there, and there are several booths along the strip. Also, just Google "las vegas show discount" to see what you get. You might get free tickets to some shows if you sit through a time share presentation. If you're styaing at the Venetian, they give discounts on their shows ("Phantom" and "Blue Man Group") sometimes.
I'll be going back to Vegas next week, and will finally get to see "Phantom, the Las Vegas Experience". I've seen Phantom on Broadway about a dozen times, as well as in London and Toronto, but this version intrigues me, so when I searched for tickets I was able to get second row center at full price and went for it. I'm looking forward! On a totally different subject, I'd recommend the long running "Jubilee" playing at Bally's. This is a classic Las Vegas experience, fabulous sets and costumes, the sinking of the Titanic, Sampson and (a very hot) Delilah, and more ritz and glitz and t*tz than any show in town. Enjoy!
Skip Phantom. I slept through it as well. The actors seemed bored and tired.. It didn't feel like an authentic musical to me.
Watch O if you have the money. I hear Le Reve is great as well. I've seen O, Love, Mystere, and Zumanity. O is definitely the best one. I heard KA is horrible.
