A different approach from LuPone. Here, Jackman and Craig stay in character while sarcastically telling the audience member to answer their ringing cell phone.

That was last Wed. 9/23, the show I was at. It was very rude and annoying, as there was an announcement to shut off all devices in the beginning of the show (and not all theaters make actual announcements). But I thought they handled it professionally and perfectly.

Thank god somebody was there to illegally videotape it.

Good for both of them!!! I was at the Saturday matinee for Hamlet, and the announcement was made loud and clear that all cell phones, recording devices, etc., etc. were to be turned off. The woman behind me was still trying to take pictures and the announcement didn't deter her. Only when an usher came over did she concede.

IMO, since this seems to continue to be a problem, I think that all theatres should require that these devices be checked at the coatromm or whatever -- at the customer's expense. If someone persists in recording, staff should have the right to confiscate the device and levy a $50.00 fine before returning them to the customer at the end of the show.

Yes, a $50 fine levied by civilians as well as 100 hours community service that is Broadway-related. So as to give back.

Ah... the beautiful gift that is bootlegging. Without this person illegally filming this, all this would be heresay. Now we have video proof and can savor the moment for eternity. I'm quite sure Daniel and Hugh will come to appreciate this footage as the years go by. A delicious record of a moment during their Broadway tenure together.

I would have loved it if when Hugh asked if she had a better story to tell, she got up on stage.

I guess they're making a habit of it - they also did it on 9/19 when I saw the play.

Hopefully, a phone doesnt go off while they're performing to critics.

Wow, I can't believe it happened twice.
Sounded like a similar ring too...my friend once had a cell phone she legitimately could not figure out why it would actually turn itself back on (or be set to silent and NOT be silent) so when we went to a taping of Conan O'brien, she took the battery out. Good move.

In this show, is it really acceptable for them to address the audience like this? I just can't imagine this happening in some of the plays I've seen, it would be completely weird.

GimmeABreak2, I would say if it is acceptable in any show, this would be the one. Almost the entire play is the character addressing the audience.

A similar experience happened to me. I know for a fact I turned off my phone because I always check twice before the show starts. After the show, I went to turn it on and it was already on! Thank God no one called (and I went to see A STEADY RAIN!!!!!)

Now, I make a point of it not to even bring my cell phone to a live show. There's no way something like that is ever going to happen to me!

Is that Hugh Jackman's accent the whole show? It's awful.

Jackman and Craig's accents are perfect. Though when I saw it (which was a while ago), Jackman slipped in and out every once in a while.

"Jackman and Craig's accents are perfect."

Craig's is acceptable, if not a little exagerrated. Jackman's, on the otherhand, is subpar. He sounds like Hugh Jackman faking an American accent. He sure doesn't sound like any Chicago cop I know.

Most likely a crew member.

I agree - it's ridiculous how many people completely ignore the announcements about photos and recording devices not being allowed, and the requests to silence cell phones. I was at a performance of The Little Mermaid back in May with my family, and the woman behind us was taking digital pictures during the whole show. I didn't say anything to her, but I wondered if an usher or anyone would do anything about it. At the end of the show when we were gathering our stuff getting ready to leave the theater, an usher came over to the woman with the camera, and made her erase all the pictures she took in front of her! It was so funny - she had to erase each picture, and then the usher took the camera from her to make sure they were all gone!! I thought that was awesome!

They're talking about this on The View right now, and showing the bootleg...

I've been thinking about what Jane said about how a crew member most likely filmed it. If this were a true bootleg would the producers allow it be to shown on TMZ and The View? The bootlegger has to be profiting on it and I have to imagine that the producers wouldn't like that at all. Or, is the bootleg doing so much publicity for them that they don't care?

Or is this a video that someone who works for the production was making for Jackman and/or Craig? A lot of actors like to watch video of themselves to help better their performance.

Let's just say I'm the bootlegger (which I am not). Wouldn't the hammer fall on me pretty hard if I sold the video to TMZ? I don't hold any rights to the content.
