Scary as hell, but it was still unprofessional and absolutely ridiculous.

The choosing was not...

Just listening to that made my stomach fall into my asshole, and I loved every minute of it. I don't care if it "ruined a moment," it sounds like they were enjoying the hell out of Rose's Turn the second time around and bet that THOSE people will never find themselves taking a picture during a show in their life.
Every minute except for that mutant hybrid of cheering/college theater student vibrato that happens at the end from an audience member. What is that?! Do people think just because they've gotten voice lessons that they now need to integrate vibrato into every extended noise that comes out of their mouth?
I love America. Just because I think gay dudes should be allowed to adopt kids and we should all have hybrid cars doesn't mean I don't love America.

After hearing it, it's very unprofessional. She just went on and on and on...and on.
If she would have walked off the stage, the orchestra would have stopped, the lights would have came up and she could have told a stage hand to take the people out of the theater. She made a HUGE scene.

What a brilliant diva! Diva's could learn a thing or two from Patti Lupone.. She should give workshops! Find your inner diva, learn the art of the LUPONE!
Funny, earlier I was going to say that Patti could be the theater worlds Grace Jones (When we were talking about how scary that audio was). Then the hurricane reference came up. So I just had to post this....
Yet another reason why I dislike Patti LuPone. Someone needs to give her lessons in anger management and professionalism, not to mention humility. If anyone else had done that, they would have been fired on the spot (and rightly so). I understand that the flashes distracted her, but she had no right to behave like that. Let the ushers do their jobs and keep doing yours, which is to STAY IN CHARACTER.
Y'know, I'm wondering... it could just be that I'm currently having extreme delusions of the power of the internet... but as there have been so many "PATTI STOPPED THE SHOW!" stories going around, and as it was the last week of Gypsy, maybe Patti did it on purpose to give the unicorn hunters a bit of a thrill. Who knows? In some parallel dimension where there is no internet, or where the people on the internet *uniformly* said "that's terrible!" instead of throwing out a ton of "OMGILOVEHER", perhaps in these parallel dimensions, Patti just kept singing and the show wasn't interrupted at all. But in this dimension, there was just enough "THAT'S FIERCE SHE'S AWESOME" flying around to make her think "aw heck, what've I got to lose? There's loads of people out there who'll think it's awesome, so let's do it!".
I have enjoyed works of his but I wouldn't say I was a fan so much. I just keep finding snippets from another theatre board I'm on turning up in the legit press, which is a bit weird, so I really am just a little too keyed up about the possible power of the internet right now. XD
There are two kinds of people in this world of ours: Those who find this kind of thing objectionable and those who find this kind of thing thrilling.
Those who find it objectionable sometimes move into the other camp after seeing the context of the diva's larger talent, particularly after comparing that larger talent to so many smaller talents all around. But others who find the behavior objectionable are enraged at the very notion that the talent IS greater than anyone else's. The behavior itself, to them, diminishes the talent--or precludes it even.
Those who find the diva thrilling never waver in that belief. It is, in many ways, a religious fervor. As they say in the opera world:
You have gone on and on and on and on defaming this production of GYPSY, and you just admitted a few days ago that you never even saw it.
We get it. Bernadette signed your Playbill and took a photo with you, therefore she is the greatest Rose of all time and all subsequent Roses, regardless of whether you see them or not, are inferior, as well as the entire production.

I find it ironic that you guys love the illegal recording of her stopping the show for someone taking pictures. And even more ironic, the person recording it is going nuts for her. Hypocrites.
Well We can go back and forth on this I guess. Whether it was right or wrong, I can imagine that it is annoying to go onstage each night and have constant distractions. Ushers don't always "Do their job" and Ms. Lupone and the entire cast are up there trying to do theirs while having to endure these distractions. Sounds like she just snapped. I have read about other Patti incidents but this one sounds a bit more intense than the others. She did what I would love to do to people with phones or those taking pictures during a show. Just my thoughts.

I don't think it is so much that people love the fact that it was recorded illegally. People are talking about what happened with Ms Lupone. I am sure everyone realizes that the person who recorded it was doing it illegally. And that person was in the wrong for doing so. But let's face it, if it is there to listen to, most people will listen to it. And have.
