Despite my overall dislike for this show, I would go see a revival with Steve Kazee. One of the main reasons I didn't like it was because of Jamie's character, and Steve has managed to make Guy (who I would generally read as whiny and dull) not distractingly annoying for me. So I'd be interested to see if he can make me like Jamie.
I would love to Megan Hilty as Cathy, if they could work around her smash schedule. If not is their any specific line that makes it seem like cathy has to be white? I would love to see an ethnic Cathy, like Anika Noni Rose, or Karen Olivo. If we were to stay in the Hilty mold, i think Rachel Potter, or Morgan James could be good.
Jason Robert Brown has already gone on record saying he's perfectly open to the idea of casting Cathy ethnically for this production. The only things in the script about her ethnicity establish that she's Irish-Catholic and a "Shiksa," meaning non-Jewish.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Paging Anika Noni Rose or Karen Olivo...and if they're not available, then call Mandy Rodriguez. Steve Kazee would be perfection as Jaime.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Here's Anika's i could do better than that. (Be warned the arrangement is a little bit different.) She's also a friend of JRBs so i would defiantly not rule her out. Anika
I've always had a slight problem with the character of Cathy. She's riddled with self-doubt and can't book a half-way decent acting job. So, when a leading goddess comes out and blows the roof off the joint, I'm all, 'The hell is she doing spending a summer in Ohio????'
Since I wouldn't want to hear the score sung badly, maybe someone who's a little voluptuous for the part? Someone who isn't 'leading lady'? Like Lindsay Mendez perhaps?
I always thought that Climbing Uphill showed that she is not that great at auditions. And the way she describes the girls auditioning with her makes it look like she's auditioning for the wrong parts.
I totally get that. And that's how I've always rationalized it to myself. But it would be interesting to see someone less 'leading lady' in the part. I always kinda felt like Sherie Renee Scott could kick Norbet's ass while belting a high G.
