MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET grabs you from the very first moment with music. With no lead in other than the writing projected on the curtain before the show begins, "Blue Suede Shoes" starts the audience on a fast paced 90 minutes of almost continuous hits. And the music is definitely the star of the show.

In December of 1956, on a Tuesday night, four legends found themselves together at Sun Records. Although soon to leave for contracts elsewhere, these legends- Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley- spent long enough in the studio that night to be dubbed the Million Dollar Quartet.

This weekend the Broadway In Birmingham series, now run by Theatre League, brought MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET to the BJCC Concert Hall. If you are fans of any of these musical greats, then you will enjoy this production.

With outstanding musicians portraying the legendary quartet and a couple of extra characters to help tell the story, each member of this ensemble held their own. Jason Cohen as Jerry Lee Lewis kept the pace quick and made for the funnier moments in the show.

"Who Do You Love?" "Folsom Prison Blues," "Sixteen Tons," "I Walk the Line," "Great Balls of Fire," and "Hound Dog" are just a sampling of the hits sung during the show. And after the curtain call, the music really took off with the now standing audience dancing.

Although only here for this weekend, MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET is on a US Tour as well as performing in Las Vegas at Harrah's Showroom. You can follow the tour and get more information at mdqvegas.com or find them on Facebook at MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET NATIONAL TOUR. TheatreLeague.org is where you should go to get information about upcoming productions.
