The Children's Playhouse of Maryland in residence at CCBC, Essex is proud to present our Young Adult Series Production of Disney's "NEWSIES." Music by Alan Menken Lyrics by Jack Feldman Book by Harvey Fierstein. Based on the Disney film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White. Originally produced on Broadway byDisney Theatrical Productions. Directed by Liz Boyer Hunnicutt, Musical Direction by Charlotte Evans, Choreography by Todd Pearthree. Performance Dates and Times - May 3, 2019 @ 7 pm - Opening Night PerformanceMay 4, 11*, 12, 18**, 19 @ 1 pm May 18** @ 4:30 pm (Special Sensory Friendly Performance to benefit Pathfinders for Autism.)**Note - The performance on May 18 @ 4:30 pm is a Sensory Friendly Performance designed to create a welcoming experience for persons on the autism spectrum or with other sensory sensitivities.All proceeds from this performance will go to support Pathfinders for Autism. Stop the presses for our final show of the season! This Disney film turned Tony-winning Broadway hit inspires everyone to fight for what's right and seize the day. It's time to carry the banner with Disney's Newsies! Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right!
Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs Carrying the Banner, Seize the Day, and Santa Fe, Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience. Join us as more than 30 of the areas best and brightest young performers light up the CPM stage and inspire us all to "Seize the Day".
