Avaaz at Olney Theatre Center

Avaaz features Roya, a dynamic hostess preparing for the celebration of Nowruz, the Iranian New Year. Through her humorous storytelling, she recounts her life journey from being part of Iran's ancient Jewish community to emigrating after the revolution, highlighting the challenges she faces as an immigrant and single mother. This solo performance, written and portrayed by Emmy-nominee Michael Shayan, captures the intersection of culture and personal identity in a heartfelt tribute. The show runs from June 6 to June 26, 2026, at Theater J in Washington, DC.
