9 to 5: The Musical at Cumberland Theatre

The Cumberland Theatre will continue their 38th Season with 9 to 5: The Musical beginning this Thursday, July 16th and running for a total of 8 performances over the next two weekends. The show is being sponsored by David and BettyJo Gehauf, Matt and Kelli Allaway and Allegany Garrett Titles & Settlements in memory of Jan Hardinger.

With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, 9 to 5: The Musical is based on the 1980 movie featuring Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Set in the late 1970s, the story follows three very different women—Violet, Judy, and Doralee—who are pushed to the breaking point by their sexist, egotistical boss, Franklin Hart Jr. After fantasizing about getting even, an unexpected turn of events gives them the chance to take control of the office and transform their workplace into one where everyone can thrive.

Filled with unforgettable songs, outrageous comedy, and plenty of heart, 9 to 5: The Musical celebrates friendship, empowerment, and the courage to stand up for what's right. Audiences will enjoy a feel-good evening of laughter, toe-tapping music, and a story that proves teamwork really can change the world.

Playing the three leading ladies will be local actors Erica Records (Judy) and Jewelien Lowery (Doralee) and visiting actor Becca Blackston (Violet). Returning to the Cumberland Theatre for the first time since 2018 will be Dan Atwood as Franklin Hart. Also featured are Melynda Wintrol as Roz and Brian Records as Joe.

The supporting cast is comprised of both visiting and local. Gianni Saverio, Matthan Potts, Lisa Podulka, Brielle Windle, Kirk Squires, Whitney O’Haver, Cheyenne Jeffries, Taylor Corley and Erik Alexis are featured throughout the show in a variety of roles.

A special cameo role will be performed by a different member of the community for each performance.

The show is being directed by Kimberli Rowley with music direction by Mikayla Dodge and choreography by Kiersten Gasemy. The design team includes Jennifer Clark (costume design), Xander Mulder (lighting design), Kimberli Rowley (scenic design), Kyle Wolford (sound design), and Steven Zalatoris (stage carpenter). The run crew includes Marcus Hardinger (stage manager) and Kiersten Gasemy (assistant stage manager).

Performance dates are July 16th, 17th, 18th,23rd, 24th and 25th at 8:00 pm and July 19th and 26th at 2:00 pm.
