Bari Hochwald's NET WORTH to Open Strand Theater's Inaugural Season

By:

The Strand Theater Company opens the inaugural season in its new home in Baltimore's histoRic Hamilton-Lauraville neighborhood with a regional premiere production of Net Worth, by Bari Hochwald.

Net Worth takes the audience on a journey of humor, money management and desperate self-reflection during a workshop on personal finances, sponsored by the Lions Club of Cleveland, OH. Moving rapidly between teaching the basics of money management and facing emotions that the secret truth of DEBT and CREDIT CARDS will evoke.... Bari finds the strength to declare independence from her "Liabilities" and understand the values of her "Assets." Based on the life experiences of balancing finances with living an entrepreneurial artistic life, this one-person show brings laughter (and reality!) to the audience.

Net Worth opens on October 6, 2016 and runs Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays October 16th and 23rd at 2pm, through October 23rd. Tickets are $20 General Admission, $10 for students, seniors and artists. All performances take place at 5426 Harford Rd. 21201. Tickets are available at strand-theater.org.

"This is an exhilarating time for the Strand, as we open our 9th consecutive season in our new home and in the new neighborhood.," says Strand's Executive Director, Elena Kostakis. "It was imperative in planning our inaugural season in Hamilton, to open with a strong and resonant female voice that would re-confirm Strand's commitment to celebrating a female perspective. Bari's show strikes a perfect note, as we invite the audiences to join us on the new exciting stage in our journey."

Ms. Hochwald is happily making her Baltimore stage debut with Net Worth, and has previously been seen on stage, television and film both in the US and Italy. She guest starred on major network productions including Star Trek, Desperate Housewives, and Torchwood, working opposite actors that include Sharon Stone, Josh Brolin, and William H. Macy. She is a published author on the subject of embracing personal finances and has taught workshops, as well as published columns and articles on the subject for young adults and artists.

The Strand Theater Company champions challenging and provocative theater that especially celebrates women's diverse voices and perspectives while bringing together the creative talents of both women and men as artists, technicians, and administrators. We invite patrons to experience some of the region's best contemporary and reinterpreted works for the stage in our intimate midtown theater.

Since launching in 2008, the Strand has presented over 35 full-length plays, including twelve World Premieres; offered 75% of the artistic positions on its productions-as playwrights, directors, designers, stage managers, and actors-to women; provided affordable theater space to many organizations and independent artists; and played an integral role in the revitalization of the Station North Arts & Entertainment District.

In August 2011, the Strand was honored as one of Baltimore magazine's "Top 5 Baltimore Theaters," along with CENTERSTAGE, Everyman, the Hippodrome, and Single Carrot. To learn more about the Strand Theater Company, visit www.strand-theater.org.
