Tyler Hinton has been a contributing editor at BroadwayWorld since January 2012. He has a BA from Brigham Young University (BYU) in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and a minor in Theatre Studies. In the past, he has written for the BYU Daily Universe and the Connersville (Ind.) News-Examiner. In addition to reviewing, he has extensive experience with many aspects of theatre, including writing, producing, directing, music directing, designing, singing, acting, marketing, publicity, and operations.

Some of my favorite theatre-going experiences include seeing the original casts of ANASTASIA in Hartford (2016) and SHREK THE MUSICAL in Seattle (2008) for their pre-Broadway tryouts, as well as being front row center for both DEATH OF A SALESMAN on Broadway with Philip Seymour Hoffman/Andrew Garfield (2012) and the MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG revival at New York Theatre Workshop (2022). A CHRISTMAS CAROL closes the final chapter at Hale Center Theater Orem with an emotional last note. In January, the theatre will open its new home at the Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater (The Ruth) on the dōTERRA campus in Pleasant Grove. It’s a bittersweet feeling to leave behind the intimate space in Orem, but their 35th annual production of this iconic story is the right place to end it.

This team has somehow brought back not only the spectacle of the original Broadway production but also its soul. The audience is completely enraptured by both sincere storytelling and production value that is beyond compare, including scenic design that needs to be seen to be believed, swoonworthy pyrotechnics and aerial choreography, tastefully stunning projections and costuming, wonderfully fresh direction, and beautiful performances.

Set in modern America with a male teenager playing the title role and more agency for the Indigenous characters, the show has been revitalized for a new generation.
