Trained at FSPA, The School of the New England Center for the Performing Arts in Franklin and backed by an eight piece band of Boston?s finest musicians, Electric Youth will bring their live show to Mechanics Hall in Worcester in an effort to promote and inspire the performing arts among area youth. This year?s event will feature Deep Dish favorite Katja Hill performing her acclaimed one-woman show, Cornucopia of Me. 2009 Acting and writing workshop with Ernest Abuba runs June 3 ? July 2. Acting instruction focuses on scenes from Chekhov?s Three Sisters and The Seagull and Shakespeare?s Richard II and Richard III. Writing instruction includes one-on-one input and work-shopping with the class. This course is open to all actors, writers and solo performers, from beginners to the more experienced. Previous Pan Asian students have represented a wide diversity of cultures and backgrounds, and gone on to perform their works nationally and internationally, as well as in Pan Asian Rep showcases and other venues. The New McCree Theatre was award a $10,000 Access to Artistic Excellence grant for Musical Theater by the National Endowment for the Arts. This grant is being used to support McCree?s Traveling Theatre Experience (TTE)program. TTE is presenting the hit Broadway musical, Purlie, based on the play, Purlie Victorious by Ossie Davis, June 12 and 13, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at the beautiful Malcolm Field Theatre on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University, 7400 Bay Road, 3 miles north of the Fashion Square Mall.

The World Premiere of Aaron Jay Kernis?s a Voice, a Messenger, featuring New York Philharmonic Principal Trumpet Philip Smith as soloist, and previously announced for June 4, 6, and 9, 2009, has been postponed until the 2009?10 season to allow the composer and the soloist more time to collaborate on the work. The piece, a Philharmonic co-commission with the Big Ten Band Association, will be replaced by Haydn?s Trumpet Concerto, to be performed by Mr. Smith. Lorin Maazel will conduct these concerts, which are part of his final weeks as New York Philharmonic Music Director.

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) was honored by the Boston Theatre Critics Association with its second Elliot Norton Award last night at a ceremony at Harvard University's Sanders Theatre. This season's production of Clifford Odets' Awake and Sing! directed by Gamm Resident Director Fred Sullivan, Jr. won in the category of 'Outstanding Performance by a Small Company.' This was The Gamm's second consecutive Norton Award nomination and second win, having received the 2008 award in the category of 'Outstanding New Script' for Paul Grellong's Radio Free Emerson, The Gamm's first-ever commission.

Ensemble Studio Theatre LA & Open Fist Theatre Company, two of Los Angeles? most respected theatre companies join together for the first time to present a world premiere play, Love Water, written by Jacqueline Wright (Eat Me, Buddy Buddette), directed by Dan Bonnell (Happy End) and produced by Isabel Storey. Love Water will preview on Saturday, May 30 at 8pm; Sunday, May 31 at 7pm; Wednesday, June 3 and Thursday, June 4 at 8pm and will open on Friday, June 5 at 8pm and run through Saturday, July 11 at The New Open Fist Theatre, 6209 Santa Monica Blvd. (former home of The Actor?s Gang) in Hollywood.

Portland Center Stage presents Grey Gardens: The Musical, the Broadway smash hit inspired by the cult documentary classic that redefined our notions of eccentricity, American royalty and glamour in decline. Grey Gardens: The Musical previews on Tuesday May 26th, opens on Friday, May 29th and runs through June 21st, 2009. Tickets range from $33.50 to $68.50, with student and under 30 discounts available.
