Carol Hall Reads New Play THE SEX EDUCATION OF MY MOTHER 10/26

Carol Hall's new play THE SEX EDUCATION OF MY MOTHER will be read by the author/composer/lyricist for the Prospect Theater's Dark Night/Solo Series on Sunday, October 26, 2008, at 8pm at the Hudson Guild Theatre at 441 West 26th Street (between 9th and 10th Avenues).
 
The play is a poignant, honest and funny assessment as to why we have all turned out the way we have.  
 
Also being read that evening are:

"AN ODE TO ANNA" written & performed Malachy Cleary.
(A young man takes his girlfriend to the Hamptons where disaster strikes.)

"THINGS BETTER LEFT DONE" written & performed by Fred Nelson.
(Near the end of his life, an early-Mormon settler faces his memories.)

"LIFE IN ¾ TIME" written & performed by Susan Laubach.
(A daughter, who is herself a senior citizen, has to take the car keys away from her 92 year old mother.)

The Prospect Theater Company's Dark Nights Series is an exhilarating chance to see both established and emerging artists explore new ideas on stage. Curated and produced by Dev Bondarin, the Dark Nights Series features everything from magic acts to dance, from new plays to cabaret.

Carol Hall (above, with husband Leonard Majzlin) most recently received critical kudos for her plays "FRAGMENTARY HEAD OF A QUEEN", which was also presented at the Prospect Theater Company as part of their "museum pieces" and "THE RIVER JORDAN LAMP" which was presented by Artistic New Directions as part of their "Eclectic Evening of Short Works". The first person ever to record one of Carol Hall's songs was the young Barbra Streisand.   Subsequently, her songs were performed by such extraordinary singers as Tony Bennett, Barbara Cook, Margaret Whiting, Julie Wilson, Chita Rivera, Michael Feinstein, Mabel Mercer, Amanda McBroom, Lari White, Olivia Newton-John, Maureen McGovern, RuPaul, Miriam Makeba, David Campbell, Frederica von Stade, Kermit the Frog and Big Bird.  Among others. She's also one of the few songwriters to have a hit Broadway show.   Her classic musical The BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS entertained Broadway audiences for almost five years, received a Grammy nomination for its cast album, and became a popular film starring Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton.  Dolly's recording of Carol's song "Hard Candy Christmas" won an ASCAP Most Performed Country Song Award, and the film generated an ACADEMY AWARD nomination for Charles Durning, singing "The Sidestep" as the slippery Governor of Texas. A recent national tour of WHOREHOUSE starring the entertainment legend Ann-Margret enjoyed a run for over a year and a half. Carol also does a lot of writing for children.  Her "It's All Right To Cry," and "Parents Are People" continue to be favorites of generations of children.  Recently she created the score to the theatrical version of the popular children's series MAX AND RUBY.   Four tours of the show are presently playing across the country, after a successful debut opening Off-Broadway in December 2007. However, her recent delight has been the making of her CD HALLWAYS, The Songs of Carol Hall which was released on March 11th of this year by LML MUSIC and features many of her most loved and wonderful songs – both old and brand new — such as the hit "Hard Candy Christmas," as well as the timeless classic "Jenny Rebecca." In addition, it features her musical collaborations with Bill Evans, Steven Lutvak, Robert Burke, Lesley Gore and Tex Arnold. But as Carol says in the CD's booklet, "a song is not a song until somebody sings it…"
