Actor, producer and director John Malkovich, who directed a French version of Zach Helm's THE GOOD CANARY in Paris last year, will now direct a new production of the play in Spanish. EL BUEN CANARIO will be open on November 26 at Teatro de Los Insurgentes in Mexico City for a ten-week run.

Leading the cast will be young Mexican actor Diego Luna, who starred in the movies Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN and THE TERMINAL. He will portray the writer Jack Parker, who struggles with his wife's drug addiction. The cast also includes Irene Azuela, Bruno Bichir, Daniel Gimenez Cacho and Yuriria del Valle.

Malkovich, a charter member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, received two Academy Award nominations -- one for his role of Will in the 1984 film PLACES IN THE HEART and another for his portrayal of Mitch Leary in 1993's IN THE LINE OF FIRE.

The Paris production, which was the play's world premiere, received more Moliere nominations than any in 2007 -- six -- and also garnered the French Crystal Globe Award for Best Play. Helm's debut screenplay, STRANGER THAN FICTION, received the PEN USA Award for Best Screenplay after it was released in 2006 and directed by Marc Foster.

Tickets for EL BUEN CANARIO can be purchased starting October 28 by calling (55)53 25 9000 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com.mx.
