TREASURE ISLAND ~ A NEW MUSICAL will set to sail at Arkansas Rep on March 8. Featuring a book by Brett Smock and Carla Vitale and music and lyrics by Corinne Aquilina, the show will be directed and choreographed by Brett Smock.

According to Daily Mail, the cast of the Academy Award nominated LES MISERABLES will be performing at the Oscars this February. The song that will be performed is still undecided, but rumors are circulating that it will likely be either be a medley, or one of the ensemble numbers such as 'One Day More' or 'Do You Hear The People Sing.'

Actors' Equity Association (AEA) announced the purchase of an 18,000-square-foot building in North Hollywood, California that will serve as the new western region headquarters for the 49,000 member trade association. The new building is located at 5636 Tujunga Avenue in the NoHo Arts District.

The producers of the new musical BARE have announced the final speakers for the TalkOUT series. Audiences at performances on Wednesday, January 30th and Thursday, January 31st will be invited to stay after the show to participate in a discussion with this week's special guests, including The Clementi Family (The Tyler Clementi Foundation) and Taylor Trensch with Stafford Arima (BARE's "Peter" and the show's director).

Former congressman Barney Frank will assume the role of a conservative senator when he makes his stage debut on Saturday, February 2 in Fiorello!, the opening musical of New York City Center's Encores! 20th Anniversary season.

Rowan Atkinson is currently leading Simon Gray's Quartermaine's Terms at Wyndham's Theatre. Set in the 1960s in an English language school for foreigners, this tragicomic play is a humourous but ultimately moving account of several years in the lives of seven teachers. This past weekend, Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman of "So You Think You Can Dance" attended a performance of Newsies, the Tony Award winning new American musical, and visited with the cast backstage afterwards. Today in 1982, Macbeth opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where it ran for 21 performances. Written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is about a regicide and its aftermath. It is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy and is believed to have been written sometime between 1603 and 1607. The earliest account of a performance of what was probably Shakespeare's play is April 1611, when Simon Forman recorded seeing such a play at the Globe Theatre.

The critically-acclaimed 50th anniversary Broadway revival of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? will play its final performance on Sunday, March 3rd at 3:00 PM. The production, which began performances on Thursday, September 27, 2012 and officially opened on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street) will have played 159 performances.

SMASH makes its long-awaited return to the NBC lineup for a second season on Tuesday, February 5 (9-10 p.m. ET) and will continue in its regular time slot on Tuesday, February 12 (10-11 p.m. ET). According to TVLine, the character everyoe loved to hate, Ellis, will be back. THough early reports indictated that Jaime Cepero would not return full time for Season 2, Josh Safran revealed that he 'may return, but not necessarily in the present."

The celebrated musical RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN'S Cinderella, originally written for television in 1957 by the legendary musical theatre duo Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, will begin performances on Broadway tonight, January 25 at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway at 53rd Street). Still on the Road-a documentary following twelve actors as they tour across America during The Acting Company's 37th season (2008-09)-premieres on greater New York PBS stations beginning Sunday, February 3 on Channel 13 at 1pm. Additional presentations are scheduled for Sunday, February 10 at 11pm on Long Island's WLIW and on Thursday, March 7 at 9 pm on New Jersey's NJTV. As independent filmmaker Sara Wolkowitz tags along, the actors spend seven months on a bus bringing theater to communities across the country that have little or no access to live performance. They experience the challenges of touring, develop the ability to adjust to all types of theaters and diverse audiences, teach students new ways to look at Shakespeare and cap the tour with praise from Charles Isherwood of The New York Times. Through conversations with Acting Company alums Kevin Kline, Rainn Wilson and Harriet Harris we learn that, with the exception of video games and Wi-Fi on the bus, not much has changed - and that is just as it should be. The documentary was coproduced by F. Richards Ford, III and Group One Productions.

Opening on February 7th at the Westchester Broadway Theatre in Elmsford, the 2008 Tony Award winning musical In the Heights takes a local stage for the first time. Directed by Westchester's own John Fanelli and presented by his Standing Ovation Studios, the production features a blend of talent and crew from Broadway and the national tour with regional performers.

Manhattan Theatre Club announced that Bill Pullman ("1600 Penn;" The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?) will join the cast of THE OTHER PLACE starting Tuesday, February 5 at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street). Pullman will assume the role of Ian.
