Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

It's Tonys week! On Sunday night, the stars will align at Radio City Music Hall to celebrate the best of Broadway. One of the final events before the ceremony, the Tony Honors Cocktail Party was held last night at the Paramount Hotel's Diamond Horseshoe to celebrate the 2014 honorees: Joe Benincasa (President & CEO of The Actors Fund), Joan Marcus (Broadway photographer), and Charlotte Wilcox (general manager). BroadwayWorld was on the red carpet to chat with the stars one last time before the big night, and below, you can find out what they'll be wearing, how they are preparing for Sunday and more!

Just last night, the Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre were handed out at the Tony Honors Cocktail Party, a private cocktail reception at the Paramount Hotel's Diamond Horseshoe. The Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre were established in 1990 and are awarded annually to institutions, individuals and/or organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in theatre, but are not eligible in any of the established Tony Award categories. This year's Tony Honors will be presented to Joe Benincasa (President & CEO of The Actors Fund), Joan Marcus (Broadway photographer), and Charlotte Wilcox (general manager). Today in 1975, Chicago opened at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rogers Theatre), where it ran for 936 performances. Chicago is a musical set in Prohibition-era Chicago, with music is by John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the 'celebrity criminal'. The original cast starred Chita Rivera as Velma Kelly, Gwen Verdon as Roxie Hart, Jerry Orbach as Billy Flynn and Barney Martin as Amos Hart.

Barnes & Noble just celebrated the new Ghostlight Records cast recording of The Bridges of Madison County, the new romantic musical which recently closed at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street), with a special in-store performance and CD signing.The event featured stars Kelli O'Hara and Steven Pasquale, in addition to other cast members. The composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown joined them at the piano, with Justin Goldner and Gary Sieger on guitars and Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf on cello. BroadwayWorld was on the scene for the special event and you can check out highlights below!

Today in 1954, Carousel opened at City Center, where it ran for 79 performances. Carousel is the second stage musical by the team of Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (book and lyrics). The work premiered in 1945 and was adapted from Ferenc Molnar's 1909 play Liliom, transplanting its Budapest setting to the Maine coastline. The story revolves around carousel barker Billy Bigelow, whose romance with millworker Julie Jordan comes at the price of both their jobs. He attempts a robbery to provide for Julie and their unborn child; when it goes wrong, he has a chance to make things right.

Tomorrow, Broadway veteran and current star of WICKED Justin Guarini brings his new cabaret show LOVESICK to 54 Below. Directed by Gordon Greenberg, the show is a tribute to all the horrifying places love has taken him - from a Catholic school closet in Doylestown, PA to the revolving hotel rooms at American Idol, and, ultimately, to Broadway. With a seven-piece band, back up vocalists Shayla Benoit, Rashidra Scott and Rebecca LaChance, and music from Burt Bacharach to Beck to Mika, LOVESICK promises to be an evening of raucous and revealing storytelling - and a full-on party. Justin recently took the time to chat with BroadwayWorld all about the new show, what it's like stepping into Fiyero's shoes, and so much more. Check out he full interview below!

Today in 1971, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown opened at the John Golden Theatre, where it ran for 32 performances. You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown is a 1967 musical comedy with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in his comic strip Peanuts. Directed by Joseph Hardy and with choreography by Patricia Birch, the 1971 cast included Grant Cowan as Snoopy and Dean Stolber as Charlie Brown.

Today in 1982, a return engagement of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 63 performances. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a musical with a book by Texas author Larry L. King and Peter Masterson and music and lyrics by Carol Hall. It is based on a story by King that was inspired by the real-life Chicken Ranch in La Grange, Texas. The original Broadway production was directed by Peter Masterson and Tommy Tune and choreographed by Tune and Thommie Walsh. It opened on June 19, 1978 at the 46th Street Theatre and ran for 1,584 performances.

Happy Birthday, Idina Menzel! Menzel reached superstardom on Broadway with her Tony Award-winning performance as Elphaba, the misunderstood green girl, in the blockbuster Wicked and in her Tony-nominated role as Maureen in the revolutionary Rent. Menzel recently reprised her role on 'Glee,' FOX's smash hit television series, as Shelby Corcoran, Rachel's biological mother. Additional theatre credits include: Aida, The Wild Party, See What I Wanna See, and more. She just received a Tony nomination for her performance in the new Broadway musical If/Then.

Today in 1951, the first Broadway revival of Oklahoma! opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 100 performances. Oklahoma! is the first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in Oklahoma Territory outside the town of Claremore in 1906, it tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams. The original Broadway production opened on March 31, 1943.

Broadway veteran and Taboo writer Boy George stopped by the GLAAD Media Awards earlier this month, where he confirmed in an interview with Mike Diamond that the show might be heading back to the stage. When asked about the odds of a revival, he commented: 'Very good. We've actually written a new script and we are in talks with people to do a new production. So yeah, it's something I want to happen.'
