Today in 1951, the first Broadway revival of Oklahoma! opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 100 performances. Oklahoma! is the first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in Oklahoma Territory outside the town of Claremore in 1906, it tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams. The original Broadway production opened on March 31, 1943.

Broadway veteran and Taboo writer Boy George stopped by the GLAAD Media Awards earlier this month, where he confirmed in an interview with Mike Diamond that the show might be heading back to the stage. When asked about the odds of a revival, he commented: 'Very good. We've actually written a new script and we are in talks with people to do a new production. So yeah, it's something I want to happen.'

Kathleen Turner and Ian McDiarmid star in new play, Bakersfield Mist by Stephen Sachs, directed by Polly Teale, which just opened at the Duchess Theatre on 27 May. Inspired by true events, this new play by Stephen Sachs asks vital questions about what makes art and people truly authentic.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, On Your Feet! - a new musical based on the life story of seven-time GRAMMY winning international superstar Gloria Estefan and her husband, legendary producer-musician-entrepreneur Emilio Estefan - will have its Pre-Broadway World Premiere in Chicago in Summer 2015 with Broadway In Chicago theater and performance schedule to be announced. It will open on Broadway in Fall 2015 at a Nederlander theatre to be announced. It's Tonys season! The 2014 Tony Awards will broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City, on CBS, on Sunday, June 8th 8:00 - 11:00 p.m. The ceremony is less than a week away, and in the meantime, BroadwayWorld wants you to get to know this year's nominees. Paper Mill Playhouse concludes its 75th Anniversary Season with America's favorite musical, GREASE. With book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, Grease will be directed by Daniel Goldstein with original choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter. Additional songs are by John Farrar, Barry Gibb, Scott Simon and Louis St. Louis. Grease will play the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from May 28 through June 29, 2014. The official press opening night is Sunday, June 1, at 7:00pm. The cast just met the press, and BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge was on hand to chat with the company.
