Richard Bean's new play Great Britain opened in the West End on September 26,following a sell-out run at the National Theatre. With a cast led by Lucy Punch andRobert Glenister, Nicholas Hytner's production now continues at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in a strictly limited season to 10 January 2015. Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey took the stage last night in front of a sold out crowd at The Harman Center in Washington D.C. for a benefit supporting his Kevin Spacey Foundation, an organization which enables the creation of new work via grants, designs education opportunities through learning, and offers free university places via scholarships. The event was chaired by business leader/philanthropist Adrienne Arsht, along with honorary co-chairs Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-CA 23rd District, House Majority Leader) and Steny Hoyer (D-MD 5th District, House Minority Whip).

Happy Birthday, Stark Sands! In 2007, Sands received a nomination for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in the Broadway revival of Journey's End. Additional theater credits include the 2009 musical adaptation of Bonnie & Clyde at the La Jolla Playhouse, The Classic Stage Company's production of The Tempestwhich earned him the Actors' Equity Foundation's St. Clair Bayfield Award, which honors the best performance by an actor in a Shakespearean play in the New York metropolitan area. From June 25 to July 12, 2009, Sands appeared in the Shakespeare in the Park's production of Twelfth Night, featuring Anne Hathaway, Audra McDonald and Raul Esparza. Sands played the role of Tunny in the Broadway production of American Idiot. Most recently, Sand received a Tony nomination for playing Charlie Price, in the musical Kinky Boots, which opened on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013.

The Old Globe presents World Premiere of Bright Star, a new American musical featuring music by Edie Brickell and Steve Martin, lyrics by Brickell, and book by Martin, based on an original story by Martin and Brickell. As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, in reaction to a piece written by New York Post journalist Michael Riedel criticizing the new musical Finding Neverland, the producers of the show found out that Riedel had not seen the show and had been writing speculatively.

The new world premiere dark comedy MONEY GRUBBIN' WHORES, written by Sean J. Quinn and directed by Brian Cichocki, will open tomorrow, Tuesday, September 30 at The Lion Theatre at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). This weekend saw a record breaking twenty-five former and current Billy Elliots come together on stage in a specially choreographed mash-up finale of Billy Elliot the Musical. At a unique performance, broadcast live to eight countries from the show's West End home at the Victoria Palace Theatre, all three original Billy Elliots - James Lomas, George Maguire and Liam Mower - took part in the spectacular finale. Two special screenings of Billy Elliot the Musical Live also took place at the historic Easington Social Welfare Centre, formerly the Easington Colliery Miners' Institute, one of the settings for Billy's inspiring story.
