Kathleen Chalfant and Kate Mulgrew just hosted the Vineyard Theatre's annual Emerging Artists Luncheon on yesterday, Oct. 3 at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South) in Manhattan. The event featured the presentation of the 2013 Paula Vogel Playwriting Award to Christopher Chen, a San Francisco-based playwright whose works include THE HUNDRED FLOWERS PROJECT and other plays. As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, NBC's upcoming live broadcast of 'The Sound of Music' will feature a handful of Broadway veterans to join previously announced Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer. Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti and Christian Borle have signed on to play Mother Abbess, Elsa Schrader and Max Dettweiler respectively. Over the weekend, hundreds of pint-sized hopefuls lined up for a chance to audition for a role as one of the Von Trapp children. Paper Mill Playhouse will launch its 75th Anniversary Season with the world-premiere, Broadway-bound musical Honeymoon in Vegas, based on the Castle Rock Entertainment motion picture of the same title. Honeymoon in Vegas features music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years, Parade, 13) and book by Andrew Bergman (director and screenwriter of the film). Gary Griffin (The Color Purple) will direct with original choreography by Denis Jones. On Monday night, some of Broadway's brightest talents sang completely new arrangements of the hits of Amy Winehouse in the most recent concert of the BROADWAY SINGS concert series. More than 20 Broadway performers were accompanied by a full band playing brand new, original orchestrations of the English singer's greatest songs. Ghostlight Records just celebrated their Original Broadway Cast Recording of the new musical HANDS ON A HARDBODY with an in-store performance and CD signing at Barnes & Noble on the Upper East Side (150 East 86th Street). Cinderella welcomed its first same sex proposal last night, September 4, directly following the 7:30pm show. The couple, Jason Aronne and Kunal Ghose, lives in San Diego and have been together for two years. Ghose said: 'Growing up in India you don't hear many western stories but you do read Cinderella and it left a lasting impression of finding 'happily ever after' on me. The Fab Four hit Broadway this summer in Let It Be, a spectacular concert experience direct from London's West End, where it continues its celebrated open-ended run, featuring 40 of The Beatles' greatest hits. Born as a West End production to celebrate the legendary band's 50th anniversary, Let It Be uses state-of-the-art projection technology and 3D sound to put audiences at the heart of The Beatles' meteoric rise from their humble beginnings in Liverpool's Cavern Club, through the heights of Beatlemania, to their later studio masterpieces with live performances of songs including 'Twist and Shout,' 'She Loves You' and 'Drive My Car,' 'Yesterday,' 'Hey Jude,' 'Come Together' and, of course, 'Let It Be.' LET IT BE began previews Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Broadway's St. James Theatre and opened last night, July 24th. The show will play a limited engagement through December 29, 2013. The concert that was held on Saturday, July 13th, in the auditorium of Lower Cape May Regional High School, in Cape May, NJ, began as a tribute to a beloved English teacher, Paul Mathis, and, sadly, wound up as a memorial concert as Paul passed away before the event was held.
