Yamel Cucuy (Live Spanish Dubbing) at St. Edwards University

Glass Half Full Theatre presents a one-night-only live Spanish dubbing of the filmed recording of its 2024 production of Yamel Cucuy, with English supertitles. As the recording screens onstage, actors read the text live in Spanish accompanied by live sound effects, creating a hybrid of cinema, radio drama, and live theater. Yamel Cucuy tells the story of a girl on the precipice of adulthood, contending with the physical and metaphysical violence of borders, haunted by folklore and hunted by immigration agents. The piece blends puppetry with live actors, performed by Diana Guizado, Gustavo Martínez, Minerva Villa, Marina DeYoe-Pedraza, Michael Galván, Antonio Medrano, and Zac Carr.
