Today Marks Inaugural Georgia Music Day

By:

Today is "Georgia Music Day," as recognized by both the Georgia House of Representative and the State Senate, to identify the impact of Georgia's music industry on this great state. Partners for this event include Georgia Music Partners (GMP), a nonprofit organization which promotes the music industry in Georgia, The Recording Academy®Atlanta Chapter, and the The Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Office of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD).

Artists from diverse genres attended including: Johnny Colt (Black Crowes/Train); Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones); Mac Powell (Third Day); Corey Smith; Robert Spano (Music Director, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra); Kristian and Brandon Bush (Sugarland); Coy Bowles and John Hopkins (Zac Brown Band); Anthony David; and David V. Johnson(Drivin N Cryin).

"For our industry to thrive, we need the creative community, state and local government, and higher education to work as a team, " said Georgia Music Partners Co-President and The Recording Academy® Atlanta Chapter President Tammy Hurt. "Today is a great day for the music industry in Georgia, and we are thrilled to honor all of those who make a living in music."

"Today shines a spotlight on creators and performers of music, as well as on businesses which support and deliver music to listeners which curate the business in Georgia," said Georgia Music Partners Co-President Simon Horrocks. "Georgia Music Day is an important step in recognizing the cultural importance and impact music has in our state."

According to an economic impact study released last year, Georgia's music industry employs nearly 20,000 individuals (direct and in-direct), who have a combined annual income of $280 million. The music industry produces a yearly economic impact of $3.7 billion and generates $126 million in tax revenues for the State and $188 million for local governments.  The study is available for download at georgiamusicpartners.org
