The cast of the Off-Broadway hit [title of show] and Steve White of the long-running global hit The Blue Man Group are joining with 826NYC - a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students with their creativewriting skills - for the workshop I Write the Songs That Make the Whole World Sing.
"Eight students aged 8 years old to 10 years old have been given the experience of a lifetime. They have been working with the talented cast of the Off-Broadway hit [title of show] - which recently announced a limited commercial return to the Vineyard Theatre to begin on July 14 - and Steve White (The Blue Man Group) to create and record their very own original songs!," state press notes. The students each write their own song to be recorded; come up with a name for their individual bands; design their own CD cover; and at the final workshop - on Tuesday, May 16 - will be given a "rockin' CD release party" where everyone gets a copy of their hit tune.I Write the Songs That Makes the Whole World Sing is presented by 826NYC - a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Their services are structured around their belief that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this in mind they provide drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications. "All of their free programs are challenging and enjoyable, and ultimately strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice." 826NYC is located at 372 Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn.Videos
