The smash hit Broadway production of WEST SIDE STORY broke the box office record at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway) two weeks in a row. For the week ending December 27, 2009, WEST SIDE STORY grossed $1,366,279.74, and then broke that record the week ending January 3, 2010, grossing $1,484,854.50 over eight performances. The previous Palace Theatre records were held by WEST SIDE STORY with $1,234,652 for the week ending April 5, 2009 and $1,308,787 for the week ending April, 12, 2009.
The producers of WEST SIDE STORY are proud to announce that 2009 Tony Award winner Karen Olivo and 2009 Tony Award nominee Josefina Scaglione have both renewed their contracts with the show to continue with WEST SIDE STORY into 2010.
WEST SIDE STORY is directed by its two-time Tony Award winning librettist Arthur Laurents with the original Jerome Robbins choreography restaged by Tony Award nominee Joey McKneely. The new production began previews on Broadway Monday, February 23, 2009, opened to critical acclaim breaking box office records at the Palace Theatre on Thursday, March 19, 2009, and recouped its $14 million investment after running only 30 weeks. The New Broadway Cast Recording of WEST SIDE STORY was released nationwide on June 2, 2009 by Sony Masterworks and is nominated for a 2010 Grammy Award. A national tour of this production of WEST SIDE STORY will begin in the fall of 2010.
