Turner Publishing Signs Kathleen Kaufman's New Horror Novel Diabhal The critically-acclaimed author that “conjures terrifying scenarios, from the creepily unsettling to the graphically horrific” (Kirkus Reviews), is continuing her terrifying style that brings forward haunting folklore into the stark light of realism. Diabhal explores the life of an ancient devil who has taken form as a young girl coming of age in the 1980s. As she discovers her dormant and horrifying powers, she is pursued by all manner of secret societies, devil-worshippers, and relentless demons. Finding allies and wisdom in the old forgotten lands of America, she works to unleash who she is and seize what she was destined to have.

“Kaufman has earned the reputation for creating a world so hauntingly real that we have no choice but to believe that it exists and within it so do the people, the power they wield, and the nightmares they create,” said Turner Publishing president Todd Bottorff. “Her elegant prose, masterful storytelling, and rich characters will beckon you to journey to a place you’ll happily go, even if it delivers unbridled fear.”

Turner is releasing Kaufman’s Hag in October 2018, a novel that follows a line of Scottish witches based upon her personal family history. Her first book with Turner, The Lairdbalor, was published last year and its film rights were optioned by Echo Lake with Nicholas Verso attached to direct.

“I am extremely fortunate to have such a supportive, creative, and courageous publisher who is unflinching about my dark brand of storytelling,” said author Kathleen Kaufman. “This is a book that challenges much of what we consider to be true about good and evil, about devils and demons, and about the role of the old ways in our modern society. Diabhal is a story about evil from evil’s point of view. It explores the notion that the devils we fear are truly manifestations of our own making, made from an evil only we are capable of creating.”

Diabhal will be released in the fall of 2019.
