STAGE TUBE: LIVE with REGIS AND KELLY - 'When Lane Targeted Philbin'

During the Tuesday, September 22nd "host chat" on "LIVE! with Regis and Kelly," co-host Regis Philbin shared details about attending the Exploring the Arts Gala, supporting Tony Bennett & Susan Benedetto's Exploring the Arts, Inc. The evening's emcee was Tony winner and BWW favorite Nathan Lane, and Philbin regaled co-host Kelly Ripa and the "LIVE" audience with how he became the target of much of Lane's humor throughout the evening (using an emcee trick that seasoned public speaker Regis knows all too well). Later in the show, Lane surprised Phibin with a phone call:

GELMAN: WE'VE GOT A SURPRISE PHONE CALL FOR YOU. HELLO, IS ANYONE THERE?

CALLER: REGIS?
REGIS: YES?

CALLER: IT'S Nathan Lane.
KELLY: AW, NATHAN! WOOHOO! [APPLAUSE]

NATHAN: REGIS ...
REGIS: HI, NATHAN, HOW ARE YOU DOING THIS MORNING? [mock indignantly] YOU WERE SUCH A BIG HIT LAST NIGHT AT MY EXPENSE.

NATHAN: .... [LAUGHTER] BUT I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH. FIRST, JUST ADMIT YOU'RE OBSESSED WITH ME. IT'S A HUGE BROMANCE WE'RE HAVING. [LAUGHTER] BUT YOU WERE MY LIFELINE LAST NIGHT. BECAUSE UP UNTIL THEN, IT WAS LIKE THE NUREMBERG TRIAL AND THEN I SPOTTED YOU AND SUDDENLY EVERY JOKE WORKED. SO I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH.[APPLAUSE] 

REGIS: ... WE'VE BEEN THERE. WE KNOW WHAT IT IS TO EMCEE ONE OF THESE THINGS. GLAD TO HELP. YOU WERE VERY FUNNY.
NATHAN: WELL, BLESS YOU.

REGIS: THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR CALLING.
