Photo Flash: To Mexico From New York With Love In Rehearsal
Broadway actress Bianca Marroquin (In the Heights, Chicago) is pleased to announce details for "To Mexico From New York with Love," a one-night-only benefit concert on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 (8 p.m.) at the Merkin Concert Hall in the Kaufman Center (129 West 67th Street). The concert will feature performances from Tony nominee Tom Wopat (A Catered Affair), Carol Woods (Chicago), Jaime Camil, Tony nominee Brenda Braxton (Smokey Joe's Café), Raymond Bokhour (Chicago) and many more.
Jordin Sparks (In The Heights) was also set to participate in the concert, however, the actress had to drop out due to a recent hip injury, causing her to miss several In The Heights performances as well as the concert. Broadwayworld.com has recently confirmed that Sparks is expected to return to IN THE HEIGHTS on September 2.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to service organizations helping those in northern Mexico who were affected by Hurricane Alex.
Even though she's now far away from her homeland, Bianca Marroquin - currently starring in Broadway's In the Heights - felt compelled to help the victims affected by the recent flooding in Mexico.
"I got frustrated at seeing the horrific images of places in Monterrey and Tamaulipas - and it was devastating to talk to people from home who were going through such incredibly tough times as a result of Hurricane Alex" Marroquin said. "Because of my Broadway commitments, I've not been able to participate in any of the local charity events that are happening in Mexico, so I decided to organize something here, with the incredible support of my friends in the theatre community. And the response from my Broadway friends has been truly overwhelming. I know that their love, support and talent will make this concert a truly spectacular event."
"To Mexico From New York with Love" will also feature performances from Roberto Araujo, Eddie Bennett, Dylis Croman, Rosie Fiedleman, Ruben Flores, Gabriela Garcia, Doreen Montalvo, Sharon Moore, Rick Negron and Marcos Santana.
Proceeds from the concert will be donated to Casa Cemex and Solo por Ayudar (Just To Help), two local Mexican charities working to build new homes for the affected people in Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas.
"To Mexico From New York with Love" is presented with the generous support of the Mexican Consulate in NYC and the Mexican company CEMEX.
Tickets for "To Mexico From New York with Love" are $50 each and are now available by visiting http://kaufman-center.org/merkin-concert-hall or by calling 212-501-3330.
