A Class Act NY, the award-winning acting studio for kids and teens has recently wrapped their widely popular one-week Broadway camp programs. Campers, ages six through 16, came from all over the globe to participate in the camps including London, England, Ohio, Missouri and Pennsylvania.
Judine Somerville, who was an original cast member in the Tony Award winning musical, Hairspray served as Co-Camp Director along with Artistic Director of A Class Act NY, Jessica Rofé. In Hairspray, Judine was a part of the singing trio sensation, The Dynamites. She also won the historic Gypsy Robe for the actor who has appeared in the most Broadway shows. Other Broadway credits include On The Town, The Life, Crazy For You and Late Nite Comic. Judine and Jessica directed and choreographed eight musical numbers in just five days. Kids made their Off-Broadway Debut in a Musical Revue for family and friends at The Producers Club. When campers weren't in rehearsal they took workshops with Broadway actors, including Jeff Kready (Billy Elliot, Sunday in the Park with George, and Les Mis), Ray Wills (The Producers, Big, Anna Karenina, Wonderful Town), Rickey Tripp (In The Heights), Eric Jackson (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Young Frankenstein) and Jeff Barry, film, television and theatre actor (Carter, Liberty, Guiding Light and upcoming films The Last Harbor, The Company Men with Ben Affleck and Tommy Lee Jones and Date Night (with Steve Carell and Tina Fey).
