Office Politics Bring the Laughs In RELENTLESSLY PLEASANT
Tongue in Cheek Theater Productions presents the world premiere comedy, RELENTLESSLY PLEASANT, written and directed by (Ms.) Jake Lipman; Performing at Theatre 54 @ Shetler Studios, 244 West 54th Street, 12th Floor, October 10-27, 2018 on Wednesday-Saturday nights at 7:30 PM and Sunday matinees at 2:30 PM
This modern workplace comedy was written by Ms. Jake Lipman, founder and artistic director of Tongue in Cheek Theater: "I wanted to create a feminist piece about women and work, and I wanted it to be funny. I started with two sources of inspiration. Sheryl Sandberg's book "Lean In" talks about women lacking the confidence to sit at the head of a table in meetings, and A.R. Gurney's play The Dining Room offers a series of comedic interactions set entirely around a dining room table. By setting my piece around a conference room table in a new female-only co-working space, the table becomes both an impediment and a soap box for the characters' ambitions."
The cast of nine features a nearly-all female ensemble, including Alicia Campbell, Lori Funk, Jessica DiSalvo, Deanna Henson, Maria Maloney, Shauna Pinkett, Amanda Rodhe, Jaya Tripathi,. and Patrick Daniel Smith.
The production team is led by Tongue in Cheek Theater Production's Producing Artistic Director, playwright and director, Jake Lipman; associate producer/dramaturge, Jessica Ammirati; assistant director, Olivia Ragan; sound designer, Philip Rothman; scenic designer, Ryan Goff; lighting designer, Michael Lounsbery, and technical assistant, Matthew Salerno.

Tongue in Cheek Theater Productions has been awarded two Puffin Foundation, Ltd., grants: in April 2018 for the development of Relentlessly Pleasant; and in March 2014, for the development of a play that became Buffalo Heights. The Puffin Foundation's mission is to open the doors of artistic expression by providing grants to artists and arts organizations who are often excluded from mainstream opportunities due to race, gender, or social philosophy.
Founded in 2006 by Jake Lipman, the mission of Tongue in Cheek Theater (TIC) is to produce and create thought-provoking comedic works, including the 2015 adaptation of the best-selling novel, The Inn at Lake Devine, by Elinor Lipman, which Huffington Post called "a passionate adaptation" and the 2014 premiere and 2017 revival of Buffalo Heights (nominated for 4 awards, including best revival, in the 2017 Planet Connections Theatre Fest).
