Marinas Menu & Lifestyle: SPAINS GREAT MATCH Celebrates 25 Years

One of New York City's premier wine events, "Spain's Great Match" was recently held at the IAC HQ Building. The impressive presentation is a celebration that pays tribute to the country's wine, food and design. More than 300 wines were poured alongside pairings from some of New York and Spain's top Spanish restaurants. Wine connoisseurs were thrilled to experience the wines from Spain's seven wine producing regions. It may surprise our readers that there are 600 indigenous grape varietals being raised in the country that include Garnacha, Godello, Listan Negro, Mencia, Polomino Fino, and Tempranillo.

We had the pleasure of attending the event and had the opportunity to participate in one of their informative tasting sessions, "A Tribute to 25 Years of Spain's Great Match." The program was presented by wine educator, Steve Olson; Michael Schachner of Wine Enthusiast; Steve Metzler of Classical Wines; and Jordi Paronella of Jaleo/Think Food Group.

Nine outstanding wines were presented that included As Sortes Godello 2016, Rafael Palacios; Altos de Losado 2016, Losado Vinos de Finca; Dits del Terra 2014, Terroir al Limit; and Lustua Palo Cortado VORS, Emilio Lustua S.A.

Steve Olson commented that there is a "symbiotic relationship between wine and food." Olson also stated that Spanish wines express the diversity of the "land of tapas."

Spanish wines are considered some of the finest in the world and have received coveted top ratings by experts. They are also accessible and a great value with the United States having the second highest number of imports. We suggest you look for them the next time you dine out or when purchasing wines.
