Mentor Mondays at
Jim Caruso's Cast Party
With Lisa Lambert & Julia Johanos

Jim Caruso's Cast Party, Birdland's 'extreme' open mic, is proud to announce the upcoming MENTOR MONDAYS segment, which takes place on the last Monday of every month. MENTOR MONDAYS pairs up-and-coming singers and composers with established artists to create a featured performance for the historic Birdland stage. The upcoming "Mentor Mondays" segment will take place at 10pm, during the first hour of Cast Party on Monday, November 25. Lisa Lambert, the Tony-winning lyricist of The Drowsy Chaperone will be paired with Julia Johanos, a recent Musical Theater graduate from Cincinnatti College of Music. Matt Aument will accompany at the piano. MENTOR MONDAYS is presented by Trevor McQueen, a recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. For the past ten years, Jim Caruso's Cast Party has been the spot for the Broadway, jazz and cabaret communities to celebrate each other with impromptu performances. Every Monday night at 9:30, Caruso, along with Billy Stritch and the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra, host a three-hour open mic/variety show at Birdland that has been called "musical come-what-mayhem!"

November 26-30 (Tuesday-Saturday) at 8:30PM and 11PM
Dave Holland's Prism
with Dave Holland (bass) Kevin Eubanks (guitar) Craig Taborn (piano) Eric Harland (drums)

Multiple Grammy winner Dave Holland -- "a master bassist and bandleader, one of the most sophisticated composers and arrangers in the jazz world" (Boston Globe) -- reunites with three past associates in "Prism." Notably, guitarist Kevin Eubanks appeared on Holland's now classic "Extensions" (ECM, 1989) before leading the Tonight Show band for 15 years. While the band is electrified, perhaps a little louder, the members -- also including drummer Eric Harland and piano/keyboardist Craig Taborn -- revel in Holland's signature interlocking rhythms and cohesive group interplay. All About Jazz says the members of Prism, "...form the most exciting and awe-inspiring quartet to debut on record this year."

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Centennial Band

"Tubaist David Ostwald's fabulous early-swing band is about as good as it gets. Known for their energetic treatment of Louis Armstrong's repertoire, these cats like to entertain as much as they like to swing." (Time Out NY)

Come see for yourself why Time Out New York called the BBB, "a completely unique experience... there isn't another band like this anywhere," and yelp.com proclaims, "if you hear one band in NYC make sure this is it... and prepare to be blown away!"

Barbara Carroll Duo with Jay Leonhart

Her "jazz pianism is the subtlest and most intricate New York has to offer." (New Yorker) Barbara Carroll's inventive piano playing and unique vocal sound transforms any composition into something hip and urbane. In a sixty-year career she has gone from being dubbed "the first girl ever to play bebop piano" by Leonard Feather in 1947, to today being dubbed a "singer who turns song lyrics into personal dramatic monologues." (Stephen Holden, New York Times).
