Character Breakdown: The Cast of PROOF Unpacks Their Roles
Proof stars Don Cheadle, Ayo Edebiri, Kara Young, and Jin Ha.
Rehearsals are officially underway for for the first-ever Broadway revival of David Auburn’s Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play Proof, directed by Tony Award winner Thomas Kail. What's it all about?
In Proof, Catherine, the brilliant but restless daughter of renowned mathematics professor Robert, is thrust into turmoil when a notebook containing a revelatory Proof is discovered after his death. As debate erupts over its true authorship, Catherine must confront the power of legacy, and the cost of proving herself.
Ayo Edebiri is making her Broadway debut as Catherine. "I think she feels all the corners of her heart very deeply. I just wrapped 'The Bear' and that's a role that I've been playing now for five years. I think in a different way [Catherine]'s a very like heady sort of person like like Sydney," she explained during a break from rehearsals. "I think Catherine is obviously very intelligent, but she does not have certain types of social intelligence... and so she just follows her impulses in a way that's that's very fun."

Note: The role of ‘Claire’ is now being played by two-time Tony winner Kara Young.
