Nominations for the 56th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The Academy's Chairman of the Board & CEO Dick Askin presided, assisted by Edie Falco and Tony Shalhoub.

The awards presentation telecast awarding Emmys in 28 categories before a black-tie audience will be televised by the ABC Television Network on Sunday, September 19, from the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium.

This year's Emmy telecast will be hosted by Garry Shandling, executive-produced by Don Mischer and produced by Michael Seligman. Danette Herman is the coordinating producer.
Nominations were made by active Academy members who voted for programs and other peer categories of their expertise. For example, performers, in addition to voting for programs, voted for performers, while writers voted for writers, directors for directors, etc.  Peer panels made up of active Academy members will screen nominations during the month of August and, in secret ballot, select the Emmy winners.

Leading the pack with 21 nominations was Angels In America.  Elaine Stritch: At Liberty picked up 3 nominations.  Below is a list of some of the nominations, including BroadwayWorld.com poster, Marc Shaiman who was nominated for Outstanding Musical Direction for The 76th Annual Academy Awards.
