Baryshnikov Arts Center presents Vertigo Dance Company, one of Israel's leading contemporary dance ensembles, performing the New York Premiere of One. One & One on March 5-6, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30PM in the Jerome Robbins Theater (450 W. 37th Street, Manhattan). Tickets, $25, are available at bacnyc.org or 866-811-4111. The company, which has toured extensively around the world, returns to New York City for its first main-stage presentation since 2011, with a creation that Jerusalem Post calls "freer and fresher than ever. It shows off new energy and an assured hand."

Founded in 1992 and based in the Vertigo Eco-Art Village, located within Kibbutz Netiv Halamed in Jerusalem, Vertigo Dance Company is rooted in the principles of promoting sustainable living and social consciousness through art and education. The company's prolific artistic director, Noa Wertheim, has developed repertoire with a daringly athletic movement vocabulary that explores and challenges the limitations of the human body. One. One & One, choreographed in 2017 by Wertheim to celebrate the company's 25th anniversary, is set to an original score for strings and vocals by Avi Belleli and is performed by ten dancers on a soil-covered floor. Creating an arresting sensory experience, One. One & One reflects the individual's desire for wholeness and spiritual connection to the natural world.

Says BAC Founder and Artistic Director, Mikhail Baryshnikov: "In the last few decades, some wonderful dance artists have established an important place in Israel's cultural landscape, and Vertigo Dance Company is among them. Vertigo's excellent dancers express a distinctive voice through an impressive movement quality-visceral and raw, but with a surprising, acute sensitivity. I'm thrilled to welcome them to BAC and for New York audiences to experience this work."

One. One & One is choreographed by Noa Wertheim with co-creator Rina Wertheim-Koren. It is performed by Sian Olles, Liel Fibak, Sándor Petrovics, Shani Licht, Etai Peri, Daniel Costa, Hagar Shachal, Jeremy Alberge, Korina Fraiman, and Yotam Baruch. Costume design is by Sasson Kedem, stage design is by Roy Vatury, and lighting design is by Dani Fishof - Magenta.
