Miriam Zendle talks to the star of the hit play

How was your evening?

It was just lovely. I loved everything about it. I loved the way it began, I liked the room that we were in, the ambience was just perfect. I liked that we were sitting down, having dinner, and you could interact and exchange with all of the people around. I loved watching people whom I do not know and seeing people acknowledged and people being so very humble and grateful in acceptance. I loved it all and I especially loved the ending with Les Miserables. Oh my goodness, yes.

Have you seen that on Broadway?

Yes! It's wonderful. And it was wonderful to watch it here tonight, it was unbelievable to watch it tonight.

Is it your favourite musical?

It hasn't been my favourite musical, but it's so powerful and now I know why, because of what it speaks to.

How does the Tonys compare to the Oliviers?

It's very different. It's in a big theatre, in a big hall, people walk in and they sit down. It's the difference between dinner and a show!

Cat's had a great evening - how did you feel hearing its name?

I just thought it was wonderful. The way I view these ceremonies and things. It's wonderful to just acknowledge the good work.

What's next after you finish Cat over here?

Home. Home. HOME!

I have to ask - you look fabulous. Who are you wearing?

I'm very bad about things like that. It's a New York designer - although I think she's from another part of the world. I'm terrible, because I don't buy things like that. I was in a shop in Washington DC and there were all these lovely clothes, and I saw this dress, and I didn't have a clue where I would wear it, but I thought 'I'm never going to see that dress again, I'm going to get that dress'!
