Last week, Variety broke news about a movie deal for the book. Anonymous Content, which has created films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Winter's Bone, and Spotlight, as well as TV series such as The OA, 13 Reasons Why, The Alienist, and Maniac, will produce the film.

Producer Joy Gorman Wheels told Variety, "'What If It's Us' is a sparkling romantic comedy, a love letter to New York City in the summer, and a moving, deeply honest look at what it's like to be a young person today," Yorkey said in a statement. "It's all the things I love, and I couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of bringing it to the screen."

At the moment, the movie is aiming for the big screen, but with Anonymous Content having such a close working relationship with Netflix and Netflix's recent successful adaptations of YA novels such as 13 Reasons Why, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, The Kissing Booth, and the upcoming Dumplin', it wouldn't be surprising to see a direct-to-Netflix movie announcement, either. ABOUT WHAT IF IT'S US, out now from HarperTeen:

Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it's that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.

Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn't be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend's things.

But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?

Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.

Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

But what if they can't quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?

What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn't try hard enough?

What if life really isn't like a Broadway play?

But what if it is?
