3 Broadway Shows Close Today

Smash, Floyd Collins, and The Last Five Years play their final performances today, June 22, 2025.

Today, June 22, 2025, Broadway says goodbye to three productions. The Last Five Years takes its final bow at the Hudson Theatre following 19 previews and 89 regular performances; Smash plays its final performance at the Imperial Theatre after 32 previews and 84 regular performances; and Floyd Collins will conclude its limited run at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre following 26 previews and 72 regular performances.

It's not uncomon for shows to close in June. Learn more about when and why Broadway shows close when they do. The Hudson will soon be home to Waiting for Godot and the Beaumont to Ragtime. The Imperial does not yet have a new tenant.

The first ever Broadway production of Jason Robert Brown’s THE LAST FIVE YEARS, opened April 6, 2025, starring Nick Jonas and Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren, directed by Tony Award Nominee Whitney White

Experience the messy, euphoric, sexy, savage, fleeting rush of falling in and out of love in New York City. She begins at the breakup. He begins at the first kiss. Both sides of this five-year relationship play out in 90 minutes at this heart-racing theatrical event.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS featured choreography by Tony Award nominees Jeff Kuperman & Rick Kuperman, scenic design by Tony Award winner David Zinn, costume design by Tony Award winner Dede Ayite, lighting design by Stacey Derosier, sound design by Tony Award winner Cody Spencer, wig & hair design by Academy Award winner Mia Neal, music direction by Tom Murray, casting by Taylor Williams and production stage management by Cody Renard Richard. Baseline Theatrical’s Andy Jones and James Hickey serve as General Managers. 


Smash opened on April 10, 2025 at the Imperial Theatre. Arnold as “Anita,” Bella Coppola as “Chloe,” Casey Garvin as “Charlie,” Nicholas Matos as “Scott” and Megan Kane as “Holly.” 

SMASH features a score by Tony, Emmy and two-time Grammy winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who wrote over two dozen songs for the television show, many of which are used  in the musical, in addition to new material they have written for the stage. With a book by two of Broadway’s most  seasoned craftsmen, four-time Tony nominee Rick Elice and Tony winner Bob  Martin, Emmy-winning and two-time Tony-nominated choreographer Joshua Bergasse, who choreographed the television series, reprises his role for the stage adaptation, and was nominated for  2025 Tony and Chita Rivera Awards for his work.  

In Smash, get ready for all the backstage pandemonium that brings a team of Broadway big shots to their knees heading to the opening night of Bombshell, a splashy new musical about Marilyn Monroe. It’s a rollercoaster ride filled with hilarious setbacks and surprises, kick-ass production numbers and iconic songs like “Let Me Be Your Star,” which were featured on the NBC television series that inspired it.


The first Broadway production of FLOYD COLLINS, a musical with book by Tina Landau, music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, additional lyrics by Tina Landau and direction by Tina Landau, opened on Monday, April 21 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. 
 
The company of FLOYD COLLINS features Jeremy Jordan as Floyd Collins, Jason Gotay as Homer Collins, Sean Allan Krill as H.T. Carmichael, Marc Kudisch as Lee Collins, Lizzy McAlpine as Nellie Collins, Wade McCollum as Bee Doyle, Jessica Molaskey as Miss Jane, Taylor Trensch as Skeets Miller, Cole Vaughan as Jewell Estes, Clyde Voce as Ed Bishop as well as Kevin Bernard, Dwayne Cooper, Jeremy Davis, Charlie Franklin, Kristen Hahn, Happy McPartlin, Kevyn Morrow, Zak Resnick, Justin Showell and Colin Trudell
 
Floyd Collins is based on the true story of a cave explorer in Kentucky, 1925. While chasing a dream of fame and fortune by turning Sand Cave into a tourist attraction, Floyd Collins himself becomes the attraction when he gets trapped 200 feet underground. Alone but for sporadic contact with the outside world, including his brother Homer, Floyd fights for his sanity – and, ultimately, his life – as the rescue effort above explodes into the first genuine media circus.
