Rufus Sewell Returns to the London Stage in Yasmina Reza's ART

Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail has reported that Rufus Sewell is returning to the London stage. The 48-year-old will join actor Paul Ritter and comic writer Tim Key in a revival celebrating the the 20th-anniversary of Yasmina Reza's prize-winning play, ART.

Matthew Warchus, who directed the original production, will return to the director's seat for the revival at the Old Vic, where the revival will run from December 10. Warchus also serves as Artistic Director of the theatre.

Of the casting, Warchus noted that he chose the cast based on their skill as actors rather than their potential at the the box office. "It's three actors, exposed on a set for 90 minutes," he told the Mail, "There's nowhere to hide." Warchus also mentioned that the creative team would revising the play throughout the rehearsal process to better serve 2016 audiences.

ART is Yasmina Reza's award-winning play about the purchase of a white on white painting that tests the limits of friendship between three Parisians. The initial hit production of the play in France led to enthusiastic stagings on both the West End and Broadway. Now in its 20th year, the play has been translated into 26 languages and is staged all over the world.
