The Associated Press reports that music icon Elton John and his partner of 21 years, film and stage producer David Furnish, will officially marry this weekend in a private ceremony in London.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Britain since March. Beginning in 2005, gay couples could form civil partnerships; the new ruling allows these partnerships to be converted to marriage, with or without a ceremony.

John and Furnish, who worked together on Broadway's Next Fall and Billy Elliot: The Musical, have two kids, Zachary and Elijah.

Among Elton John's other Broadway credits are The Lion King, Aida (for which he earned a Tony Award in 2009), and Lestat.

Congrats to the happy couple!
