Theatrefront to Present THE ORANGE DOT at the Streetcar Crowsnest

Theatrefront presents the World Premiere of THE ORANGE DOT, written by Sean Dixon and directed by Vikki Anderson. Starring Daniela Vlaskalic and Jeremy Proulx, the production will play March 16 - April 1, 2017 at Streetcar Crowsnest.

Two city workers are called to take down a large tree blighted with termites. The equipment they are meant to use is stuck in traffic, so they wait . . . armed with their smartphones, a stethoscope, an ancient arrowhead, a soupçon of boredom, and a large dose of existential dread about what the world is coming to.

They talk, argue, flirt and while away the morning together. At times, Natalie seems overcome by the tree. At other times, she just seems unable to cope. Joe tries to understand but is ultimately bewildered, until the unthinkable transpires.

An unsettling comedy in the vein of Becket's Waiting for Godot and Pinter's The Dumb Waiter, THE ORANGE DOT is a blend of absurdity and realism that delves into the dynamics of power, the nature of partnerships and the modern human condition.

Sean Dixon is a playwright, novelist, actor, and banjoist whose plays include, Aerwacol, Falling Back Home, The District of Centuries, The Girls Who Saw Everything, and A God in Need of Help which was published by Coach House Press and produced at Tarragon Theatre in 2014.

A Toronto theatre director, designer and producer, Vikki Anderson is currently the Artistic Director of Theatrefront for which she directed The Mill Part 4: Ash. Recent credits include Top Girls (Shaw Festival), Psychosis 4:48 (Necessary Angel) and Good People (Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre). Vikki was the founder of DVxT Theatre whose critically-acclaimed productions include Ibsen's The Doll House, Beckett's Happy Days, and the Henry James novella-inspired The Turn of the Screw.

Daniela Vlaskalic is a co-creator of and performer in The Drowning Girls (Tarragon Theatre, Gateway Theatre, Belfry Theatre, Persephone Theatre, Citadel Theatre, MTC Warehouse), which was published by Canada Playwrights Press. She has appeared on stages across the country including Canadian Stage, Stratford Festival, Citadel Theatre, and the National Arts Centre.

Jeremy Proulx is a multi-disciplined artist of both Anishnabe (Ojibwe) and Haudenosaunee (Oneida) descent. Canadian theatre credits include From the Aztlan to the Zocalo (Banff Centre), The Ecstasy of Rita Joe (Western Canada Theatre and the National Arts Centre), King Lear (National Arts Centre), Where the Blood Mixes (Teesri Duniya Theatre), and Bent Boy (Centre for Indigenous Theatre). Jeremy will be making his Chicago theatre debut with the Goodman Theatre in the upcoming season.
