MJTC Opens Season With MY NAME IS ASHER LEV 10/16-11/7

Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company (MJTC) opens it 16 th professional season on October 16, 2010 with the regional premiere of My Name is Asher Lev, adapted by Aaron Posner, based on the book by Chaim Potok. My Name is Asher Lev will open October 16 and play through November 7, 2010.

Asher Lev is a 12?year old boy from a strictly observant Jewish community in Brooklyn whose love of art is awakened when his mother takes him to a museum. This trip begins an exploration of a world that inexplicably resonates with his young soul.

To the horror of his parents, he begins to draw Jesus and crucifixes, leading to a struggle with his parents over religion, morality, and art. As he matures through his teen years and into adulthood, his unyielding passion leads him on a journey through the crossroads of heritage, culture, diversity, and identity. My Name is Asher Lev will be directed by Miriam Monasch.

iriam was last seen on MJTC's stage as Goldie in Women's Minyan. Her other credits at MJTC include Chiam's Love Song and The Action Against Sol Schumann. She directed MJTC's 2007 production of The Magic Dreidels. Other directing credits include Brilliant Traces and The Most Massive Woman Wins at Theatre Unbound. My Name is Asher Lev features Logan Verdoorn , David Coral, and Elena Giannetti. A newcomer to the MJTC stage, Logan brings credits from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and Atlantic Acting School in NYC.

David Coral has previously been seen at MJTC in The Triangle Factory Fire Project, The Twilight of the Golds, and The Chosen (2000) which was also adapted by Aaron Posner, based on the book by Chaim Potok. Elena Giannetti has previously been seen at MJTC in Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins and The Triangle Factory Fire Project).

Tickets for My Name is Asher Lev are Wednesdays $18, Thursdays $19, Saturdays $26, Sunday afternoons $22. There is one Sunday evening performance on Sunday, October 17 th at 7 pm, ticket price is $18. Student rush tickets are $12. Group discounts are available. Season passbook subscriptions are still available for $51 to $72.
