Oliver Booth, Lara Lipschitz, Glen Biderman-Pam
and Donna Cormack-Thomson in BAD JEWS

After a sold-out season in Cape Town and Johannesburg, the Fugard Theatre's South African production of BAD JEWS, Joshua Harmon's West End smash hit, will return for a limited season from 13 December. The play is once more presented by Eric Abraham and the Fugard Theatre and will be performed in the Fugard Studio Theatre.

After the death of their grandfather, Poppy, a family heirloom propels cousins Daphna and Liam into a domestic battle of honour, faith and heritage. The devoutly Jewish Daphna is at odds with her Liam, an entitled young man detached from his cultural traditions. Caught in the middle are Jonah, Liam's younger brother, and Liam's non-Jewish girlfriend Melody, who just wants everyone to get along. When the group is forced to spend the night in close quarters, hilarity and mayhem ensue.

This Fugard Theatre production once again features Lara Lipschitz (JERSEY BOYS, EMOTIONAL CREATURE) who returns to the Fugard Theatre in BAD JEWS as Daphna, who is unbending and religiously opinionated. Opposite her, Glen Biderman-Pam (SOMEWHERE ON THE BORDER, THE EPICENE BUTCHER) will reprise his role of Liam, Daphna's secular cousin. Oliver Booth (SKEWS ME, CHAMP) too will reprise his role of Jonah, Liam's younger brother. The Fugard Theatre welcomes Donna Cormack-Thomson (ANTHOLOGY: AFTER THE END, THE WHITE WHORE AND THE BIT PLAYER) who will play the role of Melody, Liam's new non-Jewish girlfriend.

Greg Karvellas (CLYBOURNE PARK, THE FATHER) directs with set and costume designs by Saul Radomsky (THE SHADOW OF THE HUMMINGBIRD, ORPHEUS IN AFRICA).

BAD JEWS runs at the Fugard Theatre on Tuesday through Fridays at 20:00 and on Saturdays at 16:00 and 20:00. Tickets, ranging from R130 to R165 can be booked online at Computicket, by phone on 0861 915 8000 or at any Shoprite Checkers outlet. Bookings can also be made at the Fugard Theatre box office on 021 461 4554. There is a generous 15% discount available for the Friends of the Fugard members.

The Harrington Street car park, located at the corner of Caledon and Harrington streets, is available for the use of theatre patrons. Visit the cosy ground-floor bar, which opens two hours before all scheduled show times and stays open until last rounds are called, often as late as 01:00 - and if the weather is fine, the bar on the fantastic rooftop terrace is opened, with its panoramic views of the city. Both bars offer a range of wines from some of the Cape's top estates.
