Cape Town Edge celebrates its seventh year at the National Arts Festival with a great line up of established names and newer companies, with 3 collectives within the collective that's set to sizzle in the Grahamstown cold.

Cape Town Edge at Princess Alice Hall is again generously supported by Distell, with sound and technical equipment kindly sponsored by Prosound. It will be run by The Pink Couch. As always, expect festive fun front of house, with sherry and sustenance to keep theatregoers going.

The groundbreaking initiative was established to promote independent theatre originating in Cape Town at the National Arts Festival, and for producers to share resources and mount their work under one roof. The model has proved such a success that it has been replicated by other collectives at the Festival. As testament to the high calibre of work presented, many companies have been invited to perform on the Festival's Arena and Main Programmes, at international festivals, and have received Standard Bank Ovation Awards.

The 2013 line-up is:

THE BELGIAN (10am, 27 June to 7 July): a brand new show from Cape Town Edge's perennial favourite, and tour de force performer, Gaëtan Schmid;

EXPECTANT (12h30, 27 June to 1 July): The Rust Co-operative's compelling contemporary coming of age story against the backdrop of a colonial history, featuring rising newcomer Rebecca Makin-Taylor;

THE VIEW (12h30, 2 to 7 July): This powerful and triple Fleur du Cap nominated work is movingly performed by Gideon Lombard and Ella Gabriel;

SCRAPE (2.30pm, 27 June to 7 July): From two of the creators ofthe Standard Bank Ovation Award winner, WinterSweet, a story of an everyday woman suffering from an unusual condition, taking us on an exciting theatrical journey that pushes the boundaries of conceptual theatre;

THE THINGS YOU LEFT BEHIND (4.30pm, 27 June to 6 July): Directed by Fleur du Cap Best New Director, Kim Kerfoot, written by Jason Potgieter and performed by Jason and Alicia McCormick. Five hilarious, touching monologues reveal the profound bonds that life forges between complete strangers;

THOM PAIN (BASED ON NOTHING) (6.30pm, 27 June to 6 July): The power-house team of Tara Notcutt and Albert Pretorius present Pulitzer Prize finalist Will Eno's disturbingly funny exploration of mastering the basics of life; and

PANTS ON FIRE! (9pm, 27 June to 6 July): Rob van Vuuren and Martin Evans return in their Standard Bank Ovation award-winning late night music and chat show, hosting a dazzling, star-studded line up.

"In keeping with our concept of collaboration, this year we wanted to include newer companies, who have already made their mark in the industry, and we have three collectives within our collective!," says Tara Notcutt of The Pink Couch. "With these rising young stars alongside our established names, we have one hot and sexy line-up at Princess Alice Hall."
