Lebogang Mogashoa

Lebogang Mogashoa will lead a two-day workshop as a part of the Storyteller Series programme at the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre this August.

The StoryTellers Series aims to build a community of storytellers in South Africa. Taking its cue from shows like RISK! and THE MOTH, the aim of the series is to develop the stories of a new democracy with a new group of fresh storytelling talent.

Mogashoa was born in Johannesburg in 1984. After completing a film and media degree in Cape Town, he headed to Korea to teach English, where he developed a cult following with his story telling series WHEN WE WERE NEARLY YOUNG. He returned to Johannesburg in 2013, where he has been presenting the same story telling series at POPArt, with featured guests such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

The Storyteller Series workshop takes place on 16 and 17 August from 14:00 - 16:00. Mogashoa asks participants to come ready to share their stories and - most importantly - to be honest in telling them. The four-hour course covers the basics of storytelling structure, story selection and presentation. An opportunity to perform at local gigs will be launched soon.

The full workshop costs R300 and places can be booked online or at the bar, anytime during its regular opening hours. Telephone bookings can be made on 021 300 1652. Alexander Bar & Café is situated on 76 Strand Street in Cape Town's CBD. Find out more about the venue on Facebook or Twitter.
