AMERICAN SONGBOOK

Following a season at the the National Arts Festival, A GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK will play Cape Town's Rosebank Theatre for a season of four performances, offering audiences in the Mother City a chance to see Roland Perold in his charming cabaret of classic tunes from the golden age of American popular song.

A GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK, proudly presented by The Rosebank Theatre and Cabaret Man, sees Perold return to the "golden age" repertoire that he first performed in his production of MUSICAL THEATRE MEMORY LANE, which played both locally and in the United Kingdom. As in that earlier show, A GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK sees the debonair entertainer sings from the piano as he explores material from a period where the tunesmiths of the day captured the sensibility of times, with songs that defined an era and that still dazzle today.

Composers like Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington and Cole Porter are featured in the show, with timeless numbers like "Ac-cent-tchu-ate the Positive", "Love and Marriage", "Blue Skies", "On a Slow Boat to China", "Ain't Misbehavin'" being just some of the highlights of the piece. Allowing the material to speak for itself, Perold blends his informal style with personal anecdotes and tidbits about the era and its many wonderful characters.

Perold is an accomplished actor, musical director and producer and has crafted a solid niche for himself in popular musical theatre with productions such as I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE, COWARD & COLE and EDGES. He holds a MMus Degree from Bath Spa University and a Performers Licentiate in Musical Theatre from Trinity College London, both with distinction.

A GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK runs at the Rosebank Theatre from 18 - 20 August, at 20:00 nightly, with a 15:00 matinee on Saturday. Bookings are through Webtickets or by phone on 0723166133. For further information, visit the Cabaret Man website.
