Four performers will bring SANDSCAPE to life as part
Magnet Theatre's Early Years Theatre programme.

Magnet Theatre, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut, presents Worker's Day weekend activities for the whole family. This promises to be a special opportunity to introduce little ones to the magic of live performance.

Performed by four casts of performers trained specifically to engage and communicate with young audiences, each production has been designed to captivate and fascinate young hearts and minds. The four pieces that will be presented come out of a collaboration between the Goethe-Institut and Magnet Theatre, during which an intensive training module in the creation of theatre works for very young audiences from 2 to 7 years was offered. The module was presented by Jennie Reznek and her team at the Magnet Theatre, assisted by Barbara Kölling and Anna-Sophia Zimniak from Theater Helios. Ten young South Africans were joined by eight guests from four other African countries, namely Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya and Zimbabwe, for the module.

WOODWAYS follows the pathways of wood, from seeds, roots and trees to firewood, sticks and paper. Three performers from Kenya and Cameroon will come together to delight in the forms and sounds found in the ways of wood.

PAIRED follows the antics of a group of shoes. Each searches for its partner, longing to belong and be part of a pair. Four actors explore the themes pairing, groupings and the comfortability of finding the shoe that belongs using this much-favoured item for little children.

PAIRED looks at the wonderful world of shoes.

AHA! seeks out the contents of a box in an empty space - wool! Pulling out the thread, the actors weave will themselves and children into the wondrous world of wool. This playful performance explores what wool can do, what can be made from it, how people can play with it and how the shapes that it makes can stimulate the imagination.

SANDSCAPE is filled with the sound of sand as it fills the landscape, pouring and falling. Four actors from Zimbabwe and Nigeria explore the musicality of sand in a moment of drought.

On 30 April, there will be non-stop theatre fun at Family Day with four new productions! On the Magnet Theatre's Family Day, WOODWAYS will be performed at 10:00, PAIRED at 12:00, AHA! at 14:00 and SANDSCAPE at 16:00. Tickets cost R50 for adults and R30 for children and are available at Webtickets.

The season continues from 3 - 6 May, with two shows per day. For bookings, group inquires and further information, email Chiminae Ball or call 021 448 3436.
