LISSIFIR TABOO, a 55-minute cabaret written and performed by Lise-Marie Richardson with accompaniment by Nathan Lewis, will play the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre this week.

South Africa's future is ominously uncertain and people often forget where to turn to for some salvation. Leave life behind for a second and be transported to a refreshing and restorative theatircal world, where satire rules and rules do not exist.

LISSIFIR TABOO is a racy cabaret dealing with a range of dangerous taboo themes, from the raunchy to the sweetly innocent, that are relevant to and evident in today's society. A family of familiar characters emerges in the show, which parodies life and popular music. As Richardson walks down the narrow road towards transformation on which this "alien nation" finds itself, Zuma gets a mention along with everyone else that once might have - perhaps, for a second - been put on a pedestal. LISSIFIR TABOO promises to be a little bit bitter, a little bit sweet - a little bit bittersweet - but, mostly, a little bit funny, encouraging audiences to laugh at what usually has them in tears.

Directed by Esther von Waltsleben, LISSIFER TABOO runs at the Alexander Bar from 19 - 21 May, with tickets costing R70 - R80. Bookings can be made online at the Alexander Bar website or purchased at the bar. For telephone bookings and enquiries, call 021 300 1652. Alexander Bar & Café is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed onFacebook and Twitter.
