World Theatre on Screen at the Fugard

The new, and highly anticipated, 2014 & 2015 World Cinema Season at the Fugard Theatre Bioscope has been announced. The new season kicks off in September this year.

For the fourth consecutive year, The Fugard Theatre Bioscope will once again partner with The Royal Opera House, The Royal Ballet and Bolshoi Ballet Companies as well as Great Britain's National Theatre Live Season bringing Cape Town audiences the very finest in theatre, opera and ballet, from the World's most famous stages, all in full digital high-definition and surround-sound on an enormous cinema screen in the comfort of the Fugard Theatre.

The 11am Sunday morning screenings will commence on Sunday 28 September 2014 with Great Britain's National Theatre Live recorded screening of A SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS written by Alan Ayckbourn. Other National Theatre Live recordings this season include: MEDEA (19 October 2014), A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (28 October 2014), SKYLIGHT (7 December 2014), KING LEAR (14 December 2014) and THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT TIME (21 December 2014).

The Bolshoi Ballet presentations include: THE PHARAOH'S DAUGHTER (9 November 2014), LEGENDS OF LOVE (23 November 2014), THE NUTCRACKER (1 February 2015), ALICE IN WONDERLAND (8 February 2015), SWAN LAKE (22 February 2015), ROMEO AND JULIET (22 March 2015) and IVAN THE TERRIBLE (17 May 2015).

I DUE FOSCARI kicks off the screenings from the Royal Opera House on 30 November 2014, and the season continues with L'ELISIR D'AMORE (4 January 2015), ANDREA CHENIER (1 March 2015), DER FLIEGENDE HOLLANDER (12 April 2015), THE RISE AND FALL OF THE CITY OF MAHOGONNY (14 June 2015), LA BOHEME (12 July 2015) and GUILLAUME TELL (9 August 2015)

The Fugard Theatre Bioscope screenings have proven very popular amongst the Fugard Theatre audiences with record attendances since the first season in 2011 and enjoys continued growing support. Screenings take place at 11:00 on Sundaymornings. Tickets cost R100 per person through Computicket or the theatre's box office on 021 461 4554, with excellent discounts available to all Friends of the Fugard. There is ample free, secure parking available on Harrington Square diagonally opposite the Fugard Theatre's front entrance.
