Aimée Goldsmith in CHEERS TO SARAJEVO

CHEERS TO SARAJEVO, a drama written by Aimée Goldsmith and Lidija Marelic and directed by Ashleigh Harvey, will play a winter season at the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre.

At the dawn of the Yugoslavian war, a South African photo journalist records a soon to be taboo love affair between a Serbian man and a Bosnian woman. A love affair that has blossomed from the bud of a childhood friendship. But can love survive war? Can friendship survive Sarajevo?

CHEERS TO SARAJEVO first premiered at the 2016 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. Harvey, who recently played Fanny Brice in the Fugard Theatre's production of FUNNY GIRL, will be assisted by Sven-Eric Muller. The cast includes Stephen Christopher Jubber (WEST SIDE STORY, ANNIE), Aimée Mica Goldsmith (OTHELLO, EQUUS), Alistair Moulton Black (KING LEAR, SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO) and Lamar Bonhomme (TSHIHUMBUDZO, STATEMENT).

CHEERS TO SARAJEVO runs from 26 June - 8 July at 19:00. Tickets are available from the Alexander Bar website, with tickets costing R90 if booked and prepaid online or R120 if paid on collection at the bar. For telephone enquiries, call 021 300 1652. The Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
