BLOOD BROTHERS tells the story of a mother who agrees, through absolute financial desperation, to give away one of her twin boys at birth. The moving story is set in Cape Town with a distinctly local flavour. David Kramer's adaptation, which has been highly praised by the media, marked the first time that author Willy Russell had ever granted permission for his musical to be adapted.
BLOOD BROTHERS has enjoyed phenomenal success in London, other parts of the world, and now South Africa where it has received rave reviews since opening at Theatre on the Bay last year before transferring to Johannesburg for a successful season at Montecasino. The production is now playing at the Fugard Theatre.
The show stars a talented all-local cast including Bianca Le Grange as Mrs Johnstone; singing sensation Alistair Izobell as the Narrator, Fleur du Cap Theatre Award winner Dean Balie as Eddie, Ephraim Gordon as Mickey, Carlo Daniels as Sammy, Marlo Minnaar as Mr Lyons and Lynelle Kenned as Mrs. Lyons. Andrea Frankson plays the role of Linda, while Shadley Schroeder, Junaid Booysen, Sue Pyler and Monique Rockman complete the excellent line up. Video design is by Matthew and Paul Kalil, Denis Hutchinson is the lighting designer and costumes are by Penny Simpson. Both Hutchinson and Simpson have been nominated in several categories at both the Naledis and the Fleur du Caps. The sound design is by the Red Hot Waves.
