Hauser & Wirth to Display New Works by Subdoh Gupta, 2/10Hauser & Wirth to Display New Works by Subdoh Gupta, 2/10
by BWW News Desk - Jan 31, 2015

New York, NY…Hauser & Wirth is pleased to present 'Seven Billion Light Years', an exhibition of sculptures, installations, film, and new paintings by Subodh Gupta. Spanning the New Delhi-based artist's career to the present day, the exhibition emphasizes Gupta's distinctive use of commonplace objects in his ongoing campaign to map the effects of cultural dislocation in our era of shifting powers. In particular, Gupta captures the everyday realities of life in India – its nearly surreal collisions between the inescapably earthy and the ineffably divine, between the current of masses and the path of private days - through works of art that address dichotomies between traditional values and the impact of globalization. Teaching him the secrets of the elders, they tell him of the ancient beings that created man and the rumors of their return. Evercloud must now go on a quest to return The Ancients to power. by Courtney Henley - Jan 23, 2015

It's been a long and winding road for the freaks in this season's AMERICAN HORROR STORY. Death, betrayal, sass, and some good, old-fashioned blood baths (literally and figuratively) sprinkled in for good measure made for quite a show. This season (like every other season) may have divided some viewers regarding whether it was spectacular or just spectacularly bad, but one thing's for certain: there's a lot to discuss. My fellow recapper and TV-obsessed friend Kara McCoy and I did just that. Join us, but beware: spoilers abound! (more...)

Class Act Books Announces First Release of 2015Class Act Books Announces First Release of 2015
by BWW News Desk - Jan 17, 2015

In keeping with the below-normal temperatures sweeping the country, Class Act Books has scheduled an appropriate title as its first release of 2015. Blood Will Freeze by award-winning author Tony-Paul de Vissage, subtitled 'A Tale of the Vampire Apocalypse,' coincides not only with the weather but also with the 2012 hubbub concerning the ending of the Mayan Calendar. In 2012, when an asteroid collides with The Earth, the impact awakens vampires long-hidden within the planet's interior. With outside temperatures falling to 150-below, they revive to subdue the survivors but being territorial, are soon squabbling over possession of the planet. Based on the short story of the same name, this novel is well-written and well-researched and, with the exception of the presence of vampires, details what might possibly happen if such a catastrophe occurred. Tony-Paul de Vissage has written thirteen eleven novels for Class Act Books. In 2012, he was voted one of the twelve outstanding authors of that year by the Preditors & Editors Readers Poll. Class Act Books recently celebrated its first year under new ownership and is continuing its goal of matching the genre to the reader and supplying the best titles possible. (more...)
