BWW Review: Head to Charming Excelsior for a Nostalgic and Musically Thrilling MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET at Old Log Theatre
by Jill Schafer - Aug 4, 2016

Carl Perkins, 'the king of rockabilly.' Jerry Lee Lewis, 'rock and roll's first great wild man.' Johnny Cash, 'one of the best-selling musicians of all time.' Elvis Presley, simply 'the king.' In 1956, these four men were in their 20s and at the early stages of their influential and prolific careers. They came together for one night at Sun Records in Memphis for a jam session, which was recorded and released as the 'Million Dollar Quartet.' So of course, this story had to be made into a musical. Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux did just that; the musical MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET opened on Broadway in 2010. It only ran for a year, but found success on tour and regionally, as such crowd-pleasing jukebox musicals do. Despite a fairly thin book, it's a great show, precisely because we all know and love these songs and these singers. Even if we weren't alive in 1956, these four artists and their music are an integral part of our musical heritage. The Old Log Theatre recently opened a long run of the show with a fantastic cast that's definitely worth the drive out to charming lake town of Excelsior in the Western Metro. (more...)

'The Native American Story Book Volume 5 - Stories Of The American Indians For Children' is Released
by BWW News Desk - Aug 19, 2016

'The Native American Story Book Volume 5 - Stories Of The American Indians For Children' features new stories which have been selected for young readers while presenting children with a chance to explore Native American history. Contained within 196 pages in 6x9 format, Mullins brings history to life along with original art by award winning artist C.L. Hause. Most Native American tribes did not write down or record their history, so we have to find out about their past in other ways. They used games, myths, dance, and impersonation to teach the children of their history and ways of life. Their storytelling was filled with family, heritage and stories of The Earth. It is through storytelling, that the rich history of the Native American tribes is alive and well today. It has been shared and preserved and still pays tribute to fallen heroes of the past. It is through these glimpses into the past, and these stories much like the ones that are contained in this book, that you can see what a proud heritage they possess and how in tune with The Earth Native Americans really are. Included in this collection are: The Story of the Land of Northern Lights, The Legend of the Bear Family, The Origin of Summer and Winter, The Story of the Buffalo-painted Lodges, The Story of the Camp of the Ghosts, Creation of the First Indians, The Story of the Little Burnt Face, Origin of the Sweat Lodge, Rabbit and the Moon Man, Ghost of the White Deer, Unktomi and the Arrowheads, The Story of the First Pine Trees, Raven and His Grandmother, The Story of the Snow Man, The Origin of Medicine, and many more. For further information, on the writing visit G.W. Mullins' web site at http://gwmullins.wix.com/officialsite. For information on the art of C.L. Hause visit his web site at http://clarencehause.wix.com/homepage G.W. Mullins is a Native American of Cherokee decent. He has been a published author for several years. He recently released book one in his From The Dead Of Night Series, the top selling title Daniel Is Waiting, which is available in print and eBook on Amazon.com, Kindle, Kobo, Google Book Store, Nook, Books-A-Million, Barnes and Noble and other book retailers.
