The corn was high as an elephant's eye at the Alex Theatre in Glendale last Sunday as Musical Theater Guild presented a staged reading of Rodgers and Hammerstein's bucolic musical State Fair, the only musical R&H wrote specifically for the screen. Come hear the music play! Palm Beach Dramaworks is pleased to announce the launching of its first-ever cabaret series, which will take place in the Perlberg Studio Theatre. The premiere event, which runs from June 9 - June 11, features local favorite Laura Hodos performing her acclaimed show, Julie and Mary and Ethel and Babs!, a program of songs associated with musical theatre legends Julie Andrews, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, and Barbra Streisand. South Pacific sails onto the Theatre Memphis Lohrey Stage June 2 - 25, 2017. This Pulitzer Prize-winning musical follows a nurse stationed on an island during World War II who is in love with a French expatriate plantation owner. She struggles accepting his mixed-raced children and, along with another romance between a U.S. Lieutenant and a young island native, issues of racial prejudice and gender roles are candidly explored.
